Hello to all on this Forum.
I thought I would do a plaque utilising this ID plate that I have purchased.
If any one has further info on the vehicle, it would be nice to add it to the graphics' before they are done..
Please feel free to PM me if you know anything about YKG2S2 1841?
Cheers,
Ian.

If you can narrow down the details of that rally such as the event name, year it was run, officiating organisation and status (Club, state, national event) then there may be a write-up in one of the Motorsport publications of the day - Auto Action, Racing Car News, Wheels, Sports Car News, etc.

I have a few of these and others could search their collection for photos or other details.

I'd start with Google.

Yes I tried that, but nothing came up. Rob can't remember anything now either.
Seems the car was invisible!
Thanks for the other good ideas though!

You could try some of the rally organisations. An older member may remember.

About 40 years ago I had a burgundy coloured mark 1 S which had minor damage which I repaired. I sold it to wrecker in Kirrawee for about $750, when I later saw it, it had been made into a deluxe. At the time a S motor and gearbox was worth about $300,discs $75, carbs $25, speedo and right hand tank was left in the car. He probably sold the car for what he paid me and made a good profit after selling the S bits

Welcome 68ponypete...yep, bits and pieces from cars were floating around all over the shop...the fascination with originality was confined to those with high end sporty's or race cars (don't jump on me, not in all cases, I know how race chassis etc were also fairly mobile in the day).

If a car yard swapped out S bits to make a Deluxe or K, I can't see them not removing everything that could be associated with an S. Especially with the plentiful stocks of Deluxe or K bits available in the wreckers...or auctions. I imagine that even some ex-Police vehicles might have been so converted once acquired at the ex-gummint auctions :D

I guess its easy to be critical of practices 40 odd years ago. After all, Coopers in those days were worth peanuts and as pointed out before, comprehensive insurance was the killer.

I can do better than that... I'm good friends with Bob and his son David. I haven't seen Bob in a little while, his missus is crook, and he's recovering from heart trouble.

I don't think he's ever mentioned crashing an S in a rally, he only ever talked about doing events in his 850. He did tip the 850 over once, he bought it new, and his daughter is restoring it at the moment.

I'll probably see him next Saturday, I had coffee with David this morning

I texted David, he reckons it was a mate of Bob's, he said i need to get Bob to tell me the story

Stay tuned?
