It's the only way it could be sold. If it was outed what's it worth? $20?

Not tricky enough. Once its on the net - its out there forever.

Can't wait for YKG2S2 1841 to show up on a deluxe.

My pet hate is rebirthing of cars.

People get ripped off buying a deluxe or Mini K for twice the price and then cant resell it later for what they paid.

I want to know how many Mini K's out there that are actually Cooper S's! Anyone hazard a guess? From what I gather, loads of Cooper S,s were deCooperized?? Has anybody found one that way?

Good knows how many.... but I was chatting to Terry Shiel (or Sheil??) a few years ago...well maybe 30 or so. He was bemoaning he number of Ss he had wrecked (i.e. converted into parts) or re-birthed as lesser models (you couldn't sell an S because of ruinous insurance charges).

A while later I bought a very original oil cooler off a guy with a "K". The rolled lower grill opening and brackets seemed somewhat unfamiliar on a K.

Cheers, Ian

K rolled over front panel was quite a common thing. I have seen many. I think that at the factory they grabbed whatever fitted on the day.

And what happened to the ID or compliance plates of the cars that were converted into Deluxes or Mini Ks? Were the body numbers changed?

I don't know but 1 of the 3 "Mini K's" I owned had Italian service records in the drivers door pocket. That, I could not work out at all. I'm not joking! Having said that I have a few Indonesian fuel receipts still in my car somewhere :P

When they decooperized the Cooper S's, would they have left the original speedo in place do you think? I'm guessing so??

About 40 years ago I had a burgundy coloured mark 1 S which had minor damage which I repaired. I sold it to wrecker in Kirrawee for about $750, when I later saw it, it had been made into a deluxe. At the time a S motor and gearbox was worth about $300,discs $75, carbs $25, speedo and right hand tank was left in the car. He probably sold the car for what he paid me and made a good profit after selling the S bits
