the question is
Why after fitting another cam and head has the temp gone up
1- has some hidden rubbish come out of the head and blocked up some of the radiator
2- is the jetting wrong for this cam/head setup
head gasket wasn't a 1 way fitting one as in marked front (had a 6 cyl Holden once that i put the head gasket on the wrong way and caused it to run hot)
Ignition has been checked and double checked. Max advance is 30 deg using the black box
The temp gauge didn't just change mysteriously while the engine was out
So its going to be a radiator out and pull apart to check for blockages and fit a filter sock to the inlet to catch further rubbish
Anyone know where to buy a suitable size filter sock for a realistic price

"Little over half". Do we know what this actual temperature is, in degrees C...?

Just had a look at the BMC engineering drawing for the temp gauge - part AYA9168.

It says "52 degrees C at the Cold position and 120 degrees C at the Hot position".

That's why I suggested testing the gauge with a kettle and thermometer.

Doesnt the sender have to be earthed to work?

I use a coolfilter. Only catches what will block the radiator, and much more durable.

Yes to test it you will need to earth it. Alligator clip or wire twisted around thread and earthed to car.

BUT in the absence of a decent earth...just put your Black/Negative lead on the body of the sender...

Heeeee heee...

Well today the radiator had open heart surgery
So what i found was about half the tubes were blocked with rusty mud
And even blocked at the bottom
I was nearly going to give in and just buy a new radiator
But I said stuff it and continued on
So with some elbow grease i cleaned them all out and re-soldered it back up
Took it to the radiator shop for a pressure test and to paint it black
Should have it back in the morning
The car will probably make ice cubes now

By chance have you removed the drain plug at the back of the block on the drivers side to see if that is clear as well?
