Rams you can get from SU Midel in Sydney. 1-1/2" long ones.
I use a pair of uni-filter washable socks with springs inside.
If it helps.

I think the spacers are too thick
Should be around 7.5mm (similar to the carby flange thickness)
The spacer is there to give clearance for the throttle shaft linkages
Also the heat shields should be next to the carby flanges

Hope this helps

Well i found another issue
The LHS Float Bowl is like 1-2mm from the firewall cross member when fitted up to the engine
Is this how they normally fit up
anyone got some photos of how there 1 1/2 twin setup fits

I'll try for a photo of clearances for my factory SPO41 set-up tomorrow.

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but were the carbies originally set-up for a Mini manifold? One of the most common sources for HS4 SU's is from the MGB, but to use them on a Mini manifold you need to change to 30 degree float bowl adapters so the bowls remain vertical. If not the float bowls may end up being very close to the firewall like yours.

How did you go getting some photos

Not very well, unfortunately. Like you say, it's very cramped in there with all the hoses and other bits and pieces.

The best I could do is the photo below which shows the LHS bowl sitting just above the cross-member next to the heater hose. Also a photo showing the two distance pieces (part AYA0210) for each carby as documented in the SPO41 specification. These are 0.3" thick each so 0.6" in total. The one piece heat shield would normally sit between the distance pieces so it clears the extractors. That's why two thinner pieces were specified instead of one thick one.

The clearance from the bottom of the LHS float bowl to the cross-member (actually to the plate the heater hoses go through that sits on the cross-member) is around 8mm.

P.S. Do you have a similar picture to mine showing the lack of clearance on your car?

Modified AEG573, same as yours, and Lynx Ramflo air cleaners, all as per SPO41.
