The vehicle standards booklet I looked at from qld transport states that vehicles can be raised or lowered without approval as long as 2/3 of the original suspension travel in each direction is maintained. Then in a note at the bottom of the page " *Generally, a vehicle which maintains a minimum clearance of 100mm between the ground and any point on the underside of the vehicle (except a point on a tyre, wheel, wheel hub, brake backing plate or flexible mudguard or mudflap) will meet ADR 43."
Seems to be a bit of a grey area to me, depending on the vehicles suspension geometry you could potentially lower the car to be above the 100 mm and still be illegal.
Does anyone know the standard factory height of a mini and how much travel it has?

Is that ADR apply to all minis or just 71 onwards?

100 mm for all cars. That's good clearance for the crap roads we drive on. Better than damaging our cars however for looks, lower is better.

I wonder how they expect a minimatic on the standard hydro suspension to pass that.. Its never ever been over 100mm in its entire life! I've learnt where the speed bumps are in my local shopping centre that I can't even attempt to go over haha

I know of one fella who got so frustrated (with the lack of factual common sense etc) that he locked his car whist it was over the pits and told the Rocket Scientist "inspector" to call the Police

The "inspectors" supervisor was called in and told the "inspector" he was wrong and to let the customer go on his way...

Good result. It would be nice if more people had common sense these days.
