Any suggestions for a reasonably priced multimeter for auto electrickery.
I have ye olde one that is a bit dodgy these days.
Might buy myself one for Father's Day

The $40 price range at Jaycar is what I bought. Dear enough to work well and have the features I want for very basic car auto electrics. Cheap enough to be cheap

I also bought a voltage test light for $10 to just do a quick 12v power check.

I've had one of the Jaycar AC clampmeters for about four years now, brilliant bit of gear. I can't recommend one highly enough, I know a few Sparkies who use them as their primary meter.
They're currently $70 for AC amps only, and $130 for AC/DC amps.

I'm not sure how handy DC amps would be, but AC amps is a godsend for diagnosing faulty heater elements and motors, also for checking parasitic draws around the house

The clamp is also handy for hanging the meter when working in awkward locations

Get some alligator clamps and banana plugs while you're there, and make some test leads so you don't have to try and hold both probes and operate a switch, for example

One of my multimeters at work was about $40-50 & is a Jaycar one & it is a decent meter for reasonably cheap price & is quite handy for basic electrics. But I also would suggest buying more accessories to go with it.

After going through 2 multimeters (last one isn't broken just reading wrong voltage!) I bought an Extech EX330 for about $120. Has cool functions like temp and voltage detector, but more importantly it's accurate lol
