I have the Premium in my mini. from what I hear, and my father remembers it sounds fine. I was reading up on the premium vs. the classic when I first got my mini and if I remember correctly the Premium line was to replace the Classic line for the older cars, which is confirmed in the other post. Which reminds me I am due for an oil change thanks guys =D, just wish I lived nearer to Autobarn.

I love a good oil debate...

I use Fuchs Formula 60, runs at 85psi, idles at 60psi - even after me and 2 kids did 48 motorkhana tests and only turned the engine off 5 or 6 times for the whole day.... on GR's recommendation I add MOS2 to it.

Ends up a ~$45 oil change but when I stripped the engine after 30,000-odd km's with ~12psi of boost (rings had no tension left) the crank journals looked exactly the same as when it went in.

my mate used to use valvoline xld in his motorkhana car and it always turned to sludge, I told him to change it to gulf western and presto no more sludge

I thought about the GW oil, What would be the process of swapping, well what would be the best process?

came out a bit gunky when he changed it but didn't look too bad, however when we took the motor off the gearbox it was full of jelly like sludgey stuff... really gross... not saying everyone else has/will find that, but I didn't like it at all

I ran XLD for many years in a LH Torana 3300 (202) and one day when filling the rocker cover the oil overflowed.
Waited ages for it to drain down into the engine and peered into the rocker cover.
There was so much build up of crud that nothing was recognisable
Never used XLD after that.

I used to use KMX 20W/50 for years, then Valvoline XLD Classic, no problems. It even smelled the same.

I found with XLD Premium the oil pressure was lower when hot, compared to XLD Classic. So I only used that once.
Now the XLD Classic supply seems to have gone south, I am using the Gulf Western 20W/50. Oil pressure is 5psi higher than the Classic was, hot and cold. My only beef is it is in 4L cans, not 5L.

that is annoying.... I liked the KMX (when it was good) because it came in a 6l - I got every 5th change free...

Is Gulf Western XP a Super Cheap exclusive? I can only find it on SC's website, but can't even find on GW's site. I'm guessing
it's similar to how the XLD Classic is an Autobarn exclusive (which I can't find on Valvoline's website).

One should not confuse XLD Premium and XLD Classic. I buy XLD Classic for the Minis when it's on sale. Wouldn't go near XLD Premium in the Mini. I did try XLD Premium in the Land Rover (Rover 3.5 V8) and even it didn't like it (Castrol GTX for the Land Rover was MUCH better).

Supposedly the Premium replaces the Classic and according to Valvoline is fine to use instead. (Actually Higher quality and still with added zinc) See thread linked above.

Valvoline say this but those of us who have used both found less pressure when hot with the xld premium. I saw this both on the road and GR's engine dyno.
