Post subject: | Steering Rack reconditioning or new?? ADELAIDE |
Good Morning, Apologies if this topic has been covered. Looking at deciding whether to reconditioning my existing rack, 1970 MK2, if so, who in ADELAIDE has the expertice to do this?? Second option. I have been hearing mixed reports about the new racks (assume MADE IN CHINA) However, they say they've improved from there initial batch. Any comments/suggestions, much appreciated. |

they're really quite cheap and easy to recondition so I lean in that direction. Obviously minisport SA would be able to do it or at least sell you the parts. There would be people in both of the SA mini clubs that could do it too |

Easy enough to recondition, bearings etc should still be ok, you can remove the felt bush and machine up a nylon one to replace it in the passenger side end. |

the steering rack on my 73 GT is making a lot of noise. It being a GT should I re-build the rack or just buy a new one? |

If it’s an Aussie GT with the Australian made rack I’d get it refurbished or exchanged |

get under the left hand side and pull/push the steering arm up and down (hard, like really get into it). If it clunks up and down then its just the end bush thats gone. You can almost replace that while its in the car.... but you may find it easier to remove it. The procedure for rebuilding is in the #64 workshop manual. Theres nothing to it... |
