Post subject: | Power upgrade options for the 998 |
Having made myself the laughing stock of the forum with a phenomenal 12.7 kWs of power at the wheels of my 998, I think I might do some engine enhancements before I do more handling/suspension mods which was my original plan. I'm not really sure what to do for a power increase. Option 1 is to keep the 998, and if I do that, I'd probably supercharge it down the track. Given the final goal of a supercharged engine, is it worth getting the Stage 1 kit (http://www.minidirectaus.com/web/Item/C%2DSTN17/InvDetail.cfm), or should I got with part of it, or something else? Option 2 is to ditch the 998 and stick in something larger, but I don't like this as much, I kinda like the idea of a crazy 998. While I'd prefer some advice on option 1, if anyone can sway me with some good reasons for option 2, I'm all for it ![]() Thanks guys. |

First thing I would do is wack a 1.75" LCB on it, with a 1.75" exhaust system. This can be used for any engine you put in, supercharged or not. |

Just stage one it with an HS4 carb. If the stage one doesnt include extractors, get them. If you dont want to S1, get exhaust system, HS4, (ramflo) air filter, oh and a red paint job. Red really make them fly. |

if your car is original, dont worry about the laughin if your car has been chopped, and you can afford it, then you may proceed dont change just because people laugh at you! im still driving in my 998 matic at 30mph but great and original it is and thats the way its gonna stay if it needs new life, then i say go for it. sad to see a mini neglected because of its low power... it like leaving men coz they dont get it up anymore. men peak at 18 and at 20, i can see the devastation already ![]() |

Seems to me you have 1 of 2 choices: Keep her in stock 998 and be proud (Concourse, Factory condition etc etc) which noone will laugh at you for as it's a classic after all. or wack in a stage 1 kit with LCB, exhaust etc and put in a HS4 for starters. Since you have gone the 12inch wheel and brakes package then this route seems logical ![]() If you havea spare $3000 then wack in a reco'd 1098cc. If you have $5000 then wack in a 1380cc. If you have $8- $10k then wack in a starlet turbo or something like that... Choice is yours... |

Go the Starlet Turbo!!!! ![]() ![]() OR I reckon a supercharged 1380cc would be SWEET! Still an A series then. |
