I was wondering has anyone considered converting to ethanol fuel on a mini? I have herd u can make this fuel yourself.. And just have to change the carburettor with larger jets or something in the engine supposably.. Has anyone got any information on the fuel and how to make it and how to convert your car for it? :)
Because this fuel is environmentally friendly and our future is heading in this direction so why not start now..?
:P

Um, where to start..
it eats some plastic & rubber parts, cars made to run on it (eg in Brazil) are modified to use it.
Alcohol (methanol, anyhow- probably ethanol too) has 1/3 the calorific value (ie. heat energy) of petrol so you need to flow 3 times more of it if running it neat.
In the old days Shell A race fuel was 3 times dearer than petrol, so to go 100 miles cost you 9 times as much.

Are you still with us?

OK at 16:1 C/R it does give better power than petrol, and it smells nice with old type Castrol R (castor) oil.. :P

Here is a good place to start:
http://running_on_alcohol.tripod.com/

But there are hundreds of sites in the USA. They have been commercially producing ethanol/petrol (gasahol) and selling it at the pump for 30 years. We are a little slow to change over here

looks interesting. especially with the price of fuel skyrocketing. and i cant see it coming down anytime soon. might have to put one of these new VW diesel motors into the mini.... prob throw something out in the chassis. but then you can run on bio diesel. so there is a plus. cheers for the info on the gasahol though
