just stripping the 1100 b4 it goes dumpward. and decided to have a good look at the discs.. obviously now i can see why you cant swap the whole assembly, but how hard is it to modify the caliper mounting points?? i set the cooperS hub and disc up in the 1100 caliper and took some pics. if the holes that the caliper mounts by can be filled/plugged and new holes drilled alongside the originals it should fit easily. In the mock up i did the caliper isnt on quite far enough, but the pads are only overhanging the disc by about 4 mm and that would be correctable when repositioning the holes. the caliper housing on the cooper S disc amost fits into a standard 10 inch rim, some slight grinding would be necessary, but in the contessa's there is only one tiny grind needed. .
any thoughts anyone..
what i am proposing doing is moving the mounting holes in the top pic so that the new holes are approximately alongside the existing ones toward the body of the caliper, the difference in distance between the hubs holes and the discs holes is not an issue as its minimal, and would be fixed while redrilling the caliper..

also note the disc has been machined to remove marks etc, but is still thicker than the good 1100 ones.

Didn't you say danidad that you could see these fitting under 10 inch wheels? bit of grinding :?:

As far as I know Metro brakes won't fit under 10 inch wheels, the caliper is the rarest bit of the cooper S brakes so if there is an alternative replacement I would have thought it worthwhile.
The Cooper S swivel hub is the same as the cooper (7 inch) brakes so the swivel hubs are a bit more common. Still not very common though.

I think I would drill the caliper as you said and not the swivel hub just in case you find some spare cooper S calipers

Of course correct me if I am wrong

i have had that set up in the pic sitting in both a standard wheel and a contessa's, but its jambing on the sides. as these calipers came with my 1100 they owe me nothing so i might as well have a go and see what happens.. worst scenario is a walk to the rubbish bin LOL.. I still want to hear if anyone has any experience with moving holes in calipers, in particular the technicalities of filling the old holes..

Recall this being discussed before on this or another forum - also in discussion with one of the local mini gurus - geometry is all wrong and messy trying to fix it.

i just recently bought a set of 8.4in discs and one side has a 1100 caliper on a drum hub with a laser cut mount to hold the caliper. it uses a 8.4 disc and the 1100 flange with new holes drilled. there is no real difference in the callipers at all that i can see except for the looks

Filling the holes is not a good idea- both the caliper and the swivel hub are cast iron! Doesn't take too kindly to arc welding of any sort. I'd hate it to crack on you... :?

If Mini swivel hubs were steel I would have been converting them to have disc mounting lugs years ago! Alas, they are not steel.

Ok i went back and had a rethink about this , and spent a bit of time with the mike working out the details a bit more accurate, and found out that the new hole will be clear of the existing holeand being as the S hub uses a smaller bolt, the new hole doesnt need to be as big as the original.. the old and new holes will only have about 2mm between them at their nearest point, but i have a cunning plan for that too....
the new hole location is shown in pic 1 , but not quite exact and as mentioned it will be smaller. the outer ends of the casting beyond the original hole will need cutting off, and some surface grinding will be required (can do this at work) also requires a spacer plate between the tapped holes in the hub and the new holes in the calliper (approx 6mm).
pic 2 shows the unmodified setup sitting fully into a contessa.. it is abut 1.5mm ofset in its unmodified state due to the outer caliper touching the rim. there is easily enough room for a small grind on the inside of the caliper to make 1.5mm difference, and the outside touch point is onlt small so a quick buzz with a grinder there wold make a little extra clearance..
hope this makes more sense than muy last ramblings.... i can show some of you what im on about next weekend if anyones interested..

The morry 11oo calipers are the same as the LS ones or the 8 1/4' type where as the pistons seals etc are all the same. the other thing in comm9on is they need to go under 12" wheels. I have modified a set of calipers by moving the holes and they still will not fit 10" w2heels as the piston housing is too big.
The 1100 hubs can be fitted with mini ball joints and with udjustable bottom arms the can be fitted to a mini but the wheel base is extended quite a bit.
The 1100 CV joints will fit a Drum brake type hub so with a morris 1100 driving flange ( redrilled) a 1100, LS or metro disc you are almost there, just a bracket to mount some calipers and bobs your uncle. The driving plates for 1100'as or later model minis are readily available from Karcraft, Northern Mini spares etc. A lot less hassle that fitting Honda discs although the calipers could be used
