Post subject:  how do you fit hi los
how do you fit the front hi los suspension, im finding it rather difficult to be honest, anyone know an easy way of doing it???

well i found with mine that that after 30 years of abuse the rubber cone had pretty nuch welded its self to the alloy tumpet. I had to put the cone compressor tool on the cone and get an electic hacksaw and cut the alloy trumpet in 1/2.

This made the rubber cone now drop down after the compressor tool was taken out, but the cone will not come out without a struggle, trust me it took nearlt 2 hours of banging on it to get it out. I had a really long thing screwdriver i poked in through the top hole and with a big mallat hit it out the bottom hole. Some grease on the exit hole is a good idea too.

Fitting the hi - los is pretty easy, Brad is right, gettin the alloy trumpet of the rubber cone is a mega pain in the ass.... I pulled the whole suspension setup off the get the trumpet and rubber come out, i also had to cut the trumpets off.. I had the rubber cone in a vice very very tight and i had the biggest hammer i could find (by big hammer i mean i went from a normal claw hammer to a **** slege hammer) and still couldnt get the trumpet off the rubber cone.. So i cut the mofo's off with a grinder, i wasnt gonna let them get the best of me :x

Ohh yeah and the hi- los just replaces the alloy trumpet
I didnt have the cone compressing tool so i pulled it out by pulling everything else apart

and how do you then put the hi los back in? just slot it all up in there then put the top arm back on?

forgot to say the reason i hammered the cone out was that i changed to brand new cones, if your using the old cone then leave it in there,,,, just put the highlow on the lowest setting and out it in... the undo the compresor tool and bobs your uncle.

I cut my trumpets diagonally across by hand with a hacksaw blade. They cut quite easily, didnt take long at all. Just make sure you cut above the bit that extends up into the trumpet (the knuckle?) It goes into the trumpet about 25-30mm. If you cut it on a diagonal then the top and bottom can slide passed each other to get out. My cones came out easily as they were replaced recently, but getting the knuckle from the bottom of the trumpet was a vice, punch and BFH job to punch it out :)

ok, with much pain and suffering to the hands i managed to get one of them out and as you said it was stuck to the cone... lucky i had another set there, my problem now is putting the hi lo in, is there a way to do it that im missing?

The back ones of my Clubbie just about fell out when I jacked up the back of the car. Well, the trumpet fell out of the cone on the right hand side without any help from me.

ok im almost ready to kick the bloody thing now, on the right hand (drivers) side of the car i cant get the upper arm off of the ball joint therefore i cannot get the suspension out..... any ideas how to get the bloody ball joint free???

Ideally a cone compressor to squish your cone to make room to get the HiLo in, but I didnt have a cone compressor, wound the HiLo right in to its lowest setting, that should give you plenty of room to get it in.
IF the thread on the HiLO doesnt go all the way to the bottom of the HiLo shaft, then Id get it threaded all the way so you can wind it right down for the extra room. Then you shouldnt need a cone compressor. Some HiLos come with htread all the way to the bottom, mine didnt, does now :)

This is what i wrote in a previous post.. Is this what you mean meeni?
The way i got the front of mine out was to undo these bolts surrounded
in the yellow, and slide the rod out which then dropped the whole cone
and everything out.

yer that can be easily done on that side there, but on the drivers side the big bolt through the arm hits on the brake pipe and it cannot be removed :cry:
