My front wheel bearings are buggered...just made it back from sydney...they are very much stuffed. I have read on the forums that people are using the rear tappered cooper s bearing on their front drums, are there any modifications needed ? These are rear taper roller bearings they won't fit the front Use front cooper S taper roller bearings they fit straght on |

Part number for the front Timkens from Mini shops is `LM67049A', but if you buy the kit from a bearing shop (BSC etc) it's Timken # is `LM67049A 9F2B8' Includes 2 bearings and special spacer. Don't get caught and buy 2 separate LM67049 industrial bearings- they don't have the spacer which is included in the kit and MUST be used. No you can't buy the spacer separate either. Also don't mix these spacers- they are ground specifically to suit the 2 bearings in each box. ![]() These bearings will outlast the crummy ball bearings on common Minis at least 2x. ![]() |

All Done ![]() ![]() ![]() Got a timkens bearing set from Central Coast Bearings. Was $85.80. Didnt care on price, just needed it ASAP. Only took 2 hours ![]() First time though...so now i gotta see how it holds up...hopefully it all holds together ![]() Wish Me Luck!! |

POST HIJACK (Sorry Maxi) - I helped my bro replace the rear bearings on his Clubman S on Saturday with some new tapered bearings (from Link Automotive). After using my awesome powers of deduction and realizing that the new ones incorporate a built in spacer (as opposed to the old ball bearing type with a separate spacer) and suitably drifting the new bearings into place "inside" and "outside" the hub, it seems too tight (i.e. the hub doesn't spin freely). Have we done something horribly wrong? Will they free up with the wheel on and driving?(Note: the car hasn't been driven yet on the new bearing 'cos the COMPLETE lack of maintenance that has occured with this car has meant that the rear left brake has seized the drum on and I left the job with him to remove it......). |

Unlike the ball bearings, Timken rollers are made to have about .001-.002" preload when assembled into the hub. it's normal for it to feel a little stiff, but it should not feel `jerky' when turned slowly. ![]() |
