Post subject:  7.5s or 8.4s, which stop better?
Hey, I have 8.4s to put into my car when its rebuilt, and I'll e running 12" rims again
so theres no problems, but do 7.5s offer any improvment, or are they pretty much the same?

8.4s will stop better AFAIK larger diameter rotor means more leverage to stop with.

I think I read somewhere that the 7.5" don't work quite as well with 12 and 13 inch rims, I would only look to changing from 8.4s to 7.5s if I was thinking of going to 10" wheels otherwise there is no a whole lot of point especially considering the price of S disk brake setups.

would i be right in assuming that, although swept area is larger, there's also the drawback of more.. er... rotational/circular momentum/inertia to overcome? negating some of the braking effect.

plus you need more wheel to use 8.4 inchers...

am i completely wrong here, i'm just letting my brain do the talking... bad habit...can't be helped

Get the biggest brakes that will fit under your wheels. 8.4's for 12's or 13's, 7.5's for 10's.

Point is, if you get bigger brakes than your wheels you will have to spend big bucks changing your wheels too

As someone who has done a lot of driving with both a Cooper S and a 1275LS I would pick the Cooper S set up. BUT......
The Cooper S was boosted and the LS was not.
The Cooper S has a single circuit and the LS has dual circuits.
My Cooper S has wider tyres than my LS.

My choice of brakes would be a single circuit master cylinder, a VH44 booster and the biggest discs that fit under the wheels.
My choice of wheels would be 10's. :wink:

Best `Mini brakes' I've trodden on are the Honda 9.1" Civics (boosted) in Josh's Clubby with 12" wheels....
They cost him peanuts too.... 8)

Civics are the same, but use solid discs.

Search Mini Mods, there's a whole Honda Civic brake thread in here somewhere. :lol:

I have some under 10" wheels, but don't recommend this any more as the pads need serious trimming to fit.

I screwed my "spacers" to the drive flange and disk for extra rigidity I wonder if they are then spacers or "drive flange clamp plate"???

Yep if screwed on they are not considered `spacers'.
:idea: Make them from spacered drums... as J_A_M's are- then they are drums really. What's left of them.. :lol:
