Post subject:  LSD - any LSDs from any modern cars fit?

Just wondering if anyone has been able to successfully fit an LSD out of a modern vehicle?

I unfortunately don't have $1000 to spend so was thinking I might be able to pick up a second hand diff from a modern car.

Or failing that, does anyone have the dimensions of the LSD units? I tried to find specs from some of the manufacturers but haven't been successful.

Many thanks
Owen

This one was on ebay recently
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Morris-Austi ... 7675.l2557

Quote:
This slippery diff was fitted to a Appendix J race Mini ,

It is I am told been a Holden style slippery diff machined to take the BMC crown wheel this I am also lead to believe done in Vic, it has the BMC Hardy Splicer drive shafts,

Postal cost will have to be worked out at auction end if sold as item is heavy.

Will put up internal pictures soon of the springs and clutch pack while item is used it would suit up to 160hp if you can make it.

When I bought my clubman I was told the lsd was out of a Torana, the car was built for hill climbing racing, works well. Greg from mini classic confirmed it was a lsd when he inspected the box but couldn't confirm its origin

Same with me. I bought my clubby this year and the PO said it has a holden salisbury conversion. He also used it as a hill climber. Sorry I can't help with the details all I got was a piece of paper that says LSD 80psi.

No idea of any modern car conversions.

That one on eBay is still available, I messaged the guy after it ended. It's a gripper / phantom grip, not a "real" lsd.

Thanks a lot for those leads guys.

I'll try and get some dimensions as I have a subaru LSD sitting around that might even be usable. If it is I'll let you know!

do a search on here for Honda LSD's - David Rosenthal did a lot of work, he gave me details on the conversion and not too hugely complex with some machining to do

I have made a few sets of these LSD plates that fit directly into standard diff, work on the same principle at a fraction of the price $350, I have just sold my last one , but can produce some more if I get enough interest.

Subaru Brumby LSD easily converts to an Alfa Sud...but that's no help for you!
