Post subject:  cooper 's' calipers vs alloy 4pots

so i have a choice of calipers for my cooper s 7.5'' solid discs

sh cooper 's' calipers $500 new $800
KAD billit 4 pots $1395 new
mini sport billit 4pots 300pounds + postage (new)
alloy 4pots $895 new

is there much of a brake power difference in these calipers and what is they like to drive with

any help would be great as it is a hard decision also i have standard offset contessa not s so clearance shouldnt be a problem

I've heard the MiniSport 7.5" alloy 4 pots are not good- they flex.
MiniSpares 7.5" alloy 4 pots (in UK) are not much dearer than S 2 pots (in UK). And freight should be cheaper..
<edit> Price is 252 quid /pr. You get ex-VAT price. + freight...

I'd buy a Mini Spares 7.5 4 pot too, cept I heard that you have to modify metro pads to fit... not too sure about that one :(

Not a big deal, you just cut a corner or 2 off the pad.

I'd just make sure they are MiniSPARES not MiniSPORT ones..
I'd rather have good 4 pots than S ones, which we run 2 sets of.

i am running the minispares 4 pot cost me $500 no postage cause i was in uk. i am also running vented discs, yeah as chong mentioned you have to cut the pad a little it is only the corner and its about 3mm bit of a lick and its not the pad material just the back

i noticed a massive difference straight away but then again my "S" calipers were needing an overhaul.
i have not had it on the track since i fitted them so i cant give a full report for outright abuse yet.
they will not fit under contessa's though sorry only a limited number of 10" wheels, all three peice race and revolutions, only wheels they do not have a raised section on the inside of the rim, this is why i am stillruning 13's till i can afford some nice 10's

but value for money i say yeah they are worth it.

I got the MiniSpares ones from Tony Cullen in SA. He runs MiniSport, although it is of no relation to MiniSport in the UK. He is the Australian distributor for MiniSpares UK.

Can't remember the price of the actual calipers because I bought the full front brake and drive assemblies as a kit for the 850.

They DO fit under 10" Contessas.

I will take pics tonight.

It will be cheaper if you buy them from MiniSport in SA. (No relation to MiniSport in the UK.)

They are the Australian agents for Mini Spares UK and the reason it will be cheaper is you won't get nailed on freight, duty, customs handling, etc, and then GST.

Give Tony a call and see what price he can do just as a comparision.
