as most of you would remember I've been banging on about my 1275 auto that I want to put into the matic. which I now want to do soon as the geaerbox on the 998 is getting pretty tired. I was gonna send the head to get decked and just leave the transmission on the 1275 as is for the moment. (hoping it lasts sometime anyway then I'll get it rebuilt in the future or if I hvae enouogh $$$$ get it rebuilt now) I want to rebuild the motor tho. It probably doesnt need it. It's probably just more so I want to make sure theres no leaks etc and paint it so it looks pretty LOL any suggestions? I've never really rebuilt/freshend up a motor. its out of a japanese mini. was running fine so I imagine all in all its fine really. But is there anything you suggest I do while the motor is out anyway? I'm hoping not to spend too much (hence wanting to do it myself) guy I got it off said just get the head decked - install motor and you'll be fine. would the gaskets and what not be hard to do? I just want to stop any leaks on my floor lol. I've got some space in the garage and can do it there for the time being. Hopefully its pretty simple to swap in and out even. and on top of that I have to look at removing the rust on my seams!!!! |

Will look for ward to this ! Thinking the same in the future . Did you manage to find any tweaks that worked with the auto? Faster change ... Etc On another note might have to forward an incentive for those plates ![]() ![]() |

everyone I spoke to says its a no goer on the gearbox. Graham russel tried to change the stall on it and couldnt. its the opposite way of a standard auto I've been told! I would like to know though what type/brand/part number gearbox would be in the rover A+. I have a friend thats a specialist with auto trans and he is looking to see if he can rebuild the A+ one but cant find it on his listings lol |

The gearbox is an AP box. Look at the website for Jpat http://www.jpat.co.uk/ and you will find all the answers and parts. |

Thank you. I've decided to look into getting the gearbox done and doing most of the motor work myself. I will do a head service on it and other small bits as needed. That shouold make it reliable enough lol |

Minisport also has rebuild kits for the Rover box. Not sure what else you would need, my only experience working on the AP autos was to replace the forward clutch plates. http://minisport.com.au/mini-automatic- ... after-1979 Also for the early boxes- http://minisport.com.au/mini-automatic- ... n-pre-1979 |

I wonder whether the steels in the picture are the forward and reverse bands, mentioned by JP when I got them to quote for a rebuild kit. It seems you might have to order them on top of the rebuild kit. JPAT had them for 50 quid a piece. Can anyone confirm this for me? |

Here is the JPAT kit reply " The master kit includes all frictions, gaskets, seals, o ring, metal clad seals and top and rev steels (we have zero stock of the forward steels for about 8 weeks)" |

I'd be concerned about bearings, and other parts that are worn.. I have heard some bits are NLA. |
