Rookie error..........I somehow put the release bearing on backwards. Hence the sqeueal and hard clutch pedal.
Burnt out the bearing and stuffed the sleeve. Good one.

Hi all, I fitted the following 190mm verto AP clutch kit to my 1275 about 2000kms ago and unfortunately the primary gear seal started leaking again and in-turn sent oil all over the clutch plate making it slip. http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... 0to%20shop So I changed the seal and replaced the clutch plate with the 190mm performance plate below thinking that it would be better for my supercharged engine. http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... o%20search I also replaced the primary gear retaining washer and U ring with new ones which reduced the play in the primary gear as it had more than the specs advised. So to the issue........I noticed that when fitting the clutch housing back on, the release bearing plunger moved in and hit the nut without touching the pressure plate. Considering the previous clutch plate wasn't worn I would have thought no adjustment would be required. So I wound out the two nuts anyway till the release bearing was closer to the preassure plate. Now the clutch pedal is hard and needs to go right to the floor to engage. It also squeals quite loudlely and can cause the engine to stall. Does anyone know what I have done to cause this? |

sounds nasty.... I'm not up on verto setups, but are you sure you don't have a spacer or something left over? |

So did you replace or just refit the same parts? What slave and arm are you using? |

No spacers left. I thought that too so I went through all the parts on my bench and there was nothing left over. I guess I will just have to strip it back down and investigate. When I cleaned the plunger for the release bearing I am just hoping I haven't made a rookie error by putting it back on the plunger upside down. Gee I'll be pissed. Either way the cover has to come back off. |

Surprised the Verto assembly doesn't slip with the supercharger performamce boost. I stopped trying to use them on performance road motors with more than 100lb ft torque and over 120 BHP as they just give up the ghost after around 1200rpm. |

My 1275 SPI started with a factory 50hp at the flywheel and I have only worked on the head so now only has 65hp at the wheels (roughly 80 at the flywheel) The clutch was fine before oil got onto it so should be ok. If I did the bottom end then who knows how the clutch would go. |

If your interested I had some replacement issues with my A+ a while back, here's my thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=87251&p=956150&hilit=vetro+clutch#p956150 What I'm getting at is I believe you can use non A + bearings and plungers in the A+ setup. It just may be easier/cheaper if you want to look into it yourself. |

Thanks Kennomini. All back together now. New bearing and second hand sleeve was $30. Bargain. No damage to the spring on the pressure plate Mick. I only pushed the pedal in about three times and moved the car about 2 metres so all good. |
