Hi, has anyone got an arp part number for a set of main studs for a small bore block if there is such a thing.
Thanks

What's wrong with Grade 8 bolts?

I've used some grade 8.8 stamped bolts recently, came in a belt sander kit, unlike any bolts I've used before, more akin to cheddar. Buy from reputable companies. I use united fastners is SA these days.

You can get ARP stud kit but you have to machine down the bearing cap otherwise the nut wont clear the gearbox casing.... Nothing wrong with standard bolts

I researched the same thing and decided to use new standard studs with ARP nuts because of the gearbox clearance issue. The ARP's don't seem to be specifically designed for the application so you run into a compromise. I didn't want to mess with my engine. I'm running 1275 though.

Yes, but they are metric grade 8.8, which is equivalent to SAE grade 5.

SAE grade 8 is equivalent to metric grade 10.9

What you need to use with the standard mains bolts (good enough for up to 8,000rpm) is ARP hardened steel washers under the bolt heads. The caps shuffle because the bolt heads eat in to the main caps, and so reduce the originally clamping torque considerably. The caps shuffle as they are bounced about by the flexing crank. Using the ARP washers stops this from happening. I have used this on my race engines and customer race engines for years with no failures... and no centre main straps either. On 1275 enginesyou have to grind the castellation off the heads of the bolts to stop them hittinmg the gearbox casing. A £10 solution to an expensive problem. www.calverst.com

For higher revving are engines, Rob Selby (Selby Engineering, Mini Seven engine building champion by the herd) in the UK does some excellent studs for the small-bore blocks. Beautiful things made from exotic material.
