What part number SU needle & colour spring would you suggest as a starting point for a 1 3/4 SU of a Morris 1500? Here is what it's going onto: 1293, warm cam, balanced, lightened flywheel, and it's a daily driver. I will retain the standard cast iron intake manifold, modded of course and will run a Ramflow or similer air filter. I really don't want it running lean and burning a valve or worse. Thanks |

The best idea would be a Rolling Road. They will give the correct needle an spring and ajust everything to run at its best. They will also give you a printout of Rev / BHP for your little engine. Gafmo In the Hills |

I know that a Dyno tune is nessesary but I was after a starting point. Does this sound right? Red spring and OA6 needle???? |

Sorry mate I was going for the most correct way to do it but not always the most cost efective. Try this site http://www.winsu.co.uk/ Ad in your details (well you set up) and it will give your self a ballpalk needle. If you are on a Mini block and head start with a red spring. In my opinion your best starting point would be whatever needle you currently have. I personally have a tendancy to tune a touch rich initially to try to avoid lean outs or anything. Looking at the OA6 it would be a starting point as it is relatively rich to begin with, but yes if you want to be sure putting it on the dyno would be your best bet or make yourself an exhaust gas analyser. |
