Hi All, I am just in the process of setting up some camira disks and am not too sure about something. I at first thought that I could put the disc on the outside of the drive flange to keep things really simple and make a bracket to suit but have found that the caliper hits the rim even with the spacer so..... I guess the disc has to be put on the inside of the drive flange with the studs going through the disc then through the drive flange and then the spacer. Does this sound right??? Also do people normally make up a backing plate for the studs to go through first thus effectivly clamping the disk rather than having the studs just through the crappy cast iron? thanks Jim |

I am pretty sure that the way I described above is correct but I just wanted someone who has done it to confirm. I also really wanted to know if other people are using a backing plate. Someone e-mailed me a couple of photos of a set that they had made up, and it looked like the studs went straight into cast iron disc. If this has been done, it could be very dangerous. There is a lot of force when you apply the brakes through those few studs holes. Accident waiting to happen... |

that sounds like you're trying to use drum brake cv's and drive flanges. you need to use disc brake cv's and flanges and mount the rotors to the inside on the flanges. the flanges and cv's can be fitted to drum hubs. |

I think I may have confused myself when reading other posts.... I thought you could use either. I will have to ring around and get some prices for disc brake CVs and flanges. Are the studs pressed into the rotor? |

Sorry for all the questions.... So... The studs stay in the flange as normal. The rotor then is mounted behind the flange and i guess the back of the studs rest in the existing rotor stud holes as they are oversized. Then you bolt together the drive flange and rotor with four bolts as in the pictures. So the only mods you have to do is drill four new holes for the bolts and skim out the big hole in the middle of the rotor so it does not foul on the swivel hub. And of course make a mounting bracket. Am I on the right track??? |

They costed me $950 for the whole setup.. Including the cv's and every thing in those pics.. It sure beat the $2200 for a 8.4 setup, and hopefuly they will stop better

Hello I just got quoted 1200-1300 bucks for a 8.4 disc conversion (import japanese mini bits) Fully reco did the cost include getting them engineered? |
