not sure wheter this is already on here, search for "interior and bonnet and catch" returned no results.

I'm suck and tired of people accessing my motor. admittedly it's only one person, and they are a good mate, but still, im sick of it. its not funny anymore. has anybody got an internal bonnet catch/release or know how one is set up???

Go down the local scrap yard and grab a choke cable, or go to a bike shop and get a
brake cable. Cut the release, or find/make a replacment, and make a shield from scrap
plastic or aluminium or something and clamp or attach as necessary.
Inside the car, either have something that looks like a second choke, or hide it under the dash.

so its pretty easy then? good stuff

could you ahve a similar set up for the boot??

Might be better to salvage a bonnet release off a wrecked civic or something like that, with all the brackets, then modify it a little bit to suit the mini.....

If not, a T-handled choke cable will be best, they are strong.

I tried to adapt a mini's bonnet catch to the bootlid but it was way too bulky and messy. It is possible to adapt a new car style boot catch to your mini, however it is alot of work, and the original handle will need to go (leaving an ugly hole in your bootlid that will need filling and repainting)

I will be doing the new car style boot catch on my roadster, when I get to that stage (dont hold your breath).

Piss easy. I grabbed one out of a Leyland Marina (kept it in the family, ya see!), bolted it under the dash to the right of the steering column and even used an existing hole in the firewall for the cable. Drilled a hole in the existing bonnet release handle. Cut off the rest (sticking out of the grill) and added a plate over the front of the catch (behind the grill) to prevent wandering hands from getting to the catch at all. Works a treat.

If people have a round nose and want to fit this UK made bonnet release kit, be careful.

I bought one (direct from mini spares UK) and it has about 0.5mm clearance between the body and the new lever mechanism. Left no room for the wiring loom. I am just going to fit a cable to the existing lever and fit a perspex (or maybe chrome....shiny....) plate to stop those wandering hands.

Easy.
