im not to happy with my gearbox and want to get a new one built. works fine 1 2 3 4 going up and good 4 3 going down but have troubles sometimes finding second at hi revs. who should I get to build me a box anywhere from Wollongong to Sydney, what should I get in it to make it a strong street box, what is the going rate for a full rebuild and what should I look out for? I have a spare gearbox I can get my hands on to rebuild so I can still drive my car around do they all fit or do I have to find the write one for my engine? |

In your 76 mini it should have a four speed syncro, rod change box. You'll need to check what the numbers are on the gearboxes, they should be cast into the housing behind the oil filter. The numbers could be DAM3220, DAM2686, DAM2886, DAM4818 or DAM5626. Check the numbers on your gearbox and let us all know what you have, also check the numbers on the other box to see if they're compatible. |

That should be a 4 syncro box, (in the book I'm looking at that's listed as the idler gear but it's still in the same spot). |

The pinion is the small gear on the end of the mainshaft, the one inside the gearbox closest to the speedo, not the one that hangs out the end. It drives the crownwheel which is the big gear bolted onto the differential. The number of teeth on the crownwheel divided by the number of teeth on the pinion tells you the final drive ratio. |
