I rang a few exhaust places and only two make mandrel bent exhaust (turbo to cat). And the cheapest was about $1000 including cat. So I rang up Liverpool exhaust and they said they could do it for $700. But given that I would have to hoof the car up to Sidanee that was still no good. But they said they could send me the necessary mandrel bends and I could weld it up myself. I am seriously considering this as it is $420 inc smallbody cat. Opinions... |

i would, i need to do a turbo manifold if my theory holds.. bye the bends (tip dont go to exhaust shops, performance shops seem to haggle alot easier over these) i dont think you gasless mig will suit for a weld that seals properly though because of the slag generated.. any friends have a real mig you could use? |

if you can make a subframe and weld panelwork like your boot floor, you should be able to do your exhaust.. only tricky bit is a good seal (fill it up with water) |

That is a rediculous price for just a dump pipe, a cat and some steel tube. Mandrel bent or not. I got a 3 inch mandrel dump for $250, and my complete midsection redone including a 3 inch straight through muffler, a length of 3 inch pipe and a 3 inch high flow cat for $500 all mandrel bent and fitted. |

one thing your missing there is the fact he is buying a cat aswell.. these things are not cheap, they are full of precious metals! |

I make my own exhausts mandrel bends are about $15 for 2 1/2" 90 degree mild steel Buy some aluminized steel pipe zap it all together easy My 2 1/2' cat cost about $170 from local exhaust shop straight though muffler about $80 |

read my post again mate. Its a 1.3 litre. He doesnt need a 3 inch cat, any 2.5 inch one will do. Maybe find a second hand one off a HSV or similar. |

That was for a turbo falcon by the way. Not a mini. How big is the exhaust you need? 2.5 inch? That is the most common size. Go elsewhere or to a performance shop and get a quote. |

yeah do it yourself its easy, I doing my van at the moment 2.5" from the turbo back its simple stuff just buy a few figure 8 exhaust rubbers make a few bolt on hooks underneath and "bob's your uncle" mine is basically all straight with the cat bolt in at the front with flanges and a straight through muffler at the rear, dont know how you go with the sedan for room at the rear for the muffler because of the spare tyre well but im sure something will fit. all in all its a mandrel bent exhaust and it was reasonably cheap. I got all my bits from repco. hardest part is making the dump pipe, just takes a little more effort! hope this helps. |

I reckon this is way to expensive. You could search around and find a good second hand cat for not too much, like dansedgli get one of a hsv or something when they upgrade to 3 inch. Do you legally need a cat since its going into a pre 72 model car? If your worried about the welds you could then just line it all up and tack weld it up then take it to get an exhaust shop to get welded up, that way it wouldnt cost too much. |

the last exhaust i made up was for an escort panel van but i didnt weld a thing i work out what parts i needed then drove around a few hour getting price then just got the place to put bells on the ends of the bits in order and and fitted it with exhaust clamps, which you also run your mounts off, and that was 2 years ago as far as i know it has never leaked and also easy to pull it all back out again if the owner ever has to and you won't be worried about your welds leaking. well that my 11c inc gst |

Emission rules are for the year of the engine,,, not the year of the car! If you have a 86 or later engine then you must fit a cat, $2500 fine if caught. |
