Hey all,

In my starlet conversion (that hasnt started yet) I am contemplating installing a roll cage. Does anyone know where I can find guidelines (CAM's and RTA) in relation to the installation of these cages?

They'll screw you if you dont get an engineer involved straight away.

I got done in my mini back in 1991 for a shop bought 6 point because it "has high reflective qualities, restricted passenger access..." . On the front arms aparently there is some rule about reflection from the dash area??? the side hip bar and diagonal hoop bar are also an issue. Well it was enought that I had to pull it out and get another RWC.

Again get an engineers cert, keep the report in you car and let the plods read it befor they fine you and unroadworthy you.

PS
Good Luck

Yeah I thought that might have been the case with the engineer.
Thanx

um...he said starlet conversion which = engineer anyway

CAMS schedule requires that all roll cages be welded steel 6 point minimum these days for race cars, if you want to get a log book. but i think there is a loophole, if you don't want a race log book and keep it road registered, you can have a half cage or alloy for use in supersprints and hillclimbs, because road registered cars don't need cages for these events at all. The scrutineers would knock it back for full on racing though.

I have heard that Arthur Jackson build good reasonably priced cages for minis and he is at Smithfield. PM MrBob for details, he just had Arthur put a hydraulic handbrake in.

is it for road or race? 4 point cage is all that is allowed in NSW, VIC you can have 6 point. Theres rules though about how far away the bars have to be from you. And i think the bars close to you have to have that padding on it.

not sure if this link will work, but I started a thread about roll cages in NSW a week or so back. Some useful information there...
