Post subject:  my engine is coming home

Getting my machined block back tomorrow,
I said dont rush it what i should have said is i want it tomorrow then they wouldnt have rushed it.
1 week is all it took and the machine work is done, the crank is ground, the rods checked and pistons fitted to them, block cleaned bored honed. BUT i havent gotten all the bits for the balance yet so looks like i'll pick it all up and go back once i have everything for the balancing act.
I'm very excited to see it all clean and fresh but its going to be months before i have the money to rebuild the gearbox, and i know if i just "put it together" it wont be pulled apart until the gearbox self destructs and takes out my new engine so im going to have to suck it up and wait.
As with all build ups this one 'will' go over time and i cant see it being ready by december 27 because i got a little too carried away.
However mechanically it could be ready to drive and maybe if the missus agrees we could do the body and interior over the following few months.
On a different note i found a 66 deluxe advertised on ebay that has a few too many parts that i remember from my 67 i sold 20 yrs ago..I'm waiting for a reply from the seller so i can check out the vin to my records and see if its "THE ONE" if it is i could be adding another mini to my collection :D .

I've had my engine at a reputable recommended Victorian based engine shop for over 12 months. After repeated phone calls, drop ins and promises of we'll get onto it I'm still waiting... :?

They never called me today like they said they would. But I'm not concerned, I didnt really want it back this week anyway so the longer they take the more i can get done before i have to assemble the engine. I have a friend who has been in the industry for a very long time and he has used top torque in the past for some very fast V8's and never had a problem so I'm hoping after all these years they are still the same.
Once i pick up the engine I'll post some pics before and after i paint it and assemble it.... its like christmas time...

very happy with the work and service. The wife picked the color for the engine and we had a good look at paint colors for the body to match, She made a choice but as we all know Women change their minds OFTEN.
I have to wait a few weeks for funds so i can get a few things i forgot to pick up. ie: big end bearings and rod bearings and welsh plugs i need to assemble it. Its ok with me that means i have time to concentrate on rebuilding the front subframe, suspension and install the cooper s disks

Don't use those old rod bolts, you dunno where they've been- get some ARP ones. Lube & torque up as per their instructions.
And, bin those old locktabs.... not needed with ARP bolts.

hence the have to wait for funds.. i already got the ARP head bolts but ran out of cash.. With Melbourne cup weekend coming up fast camping is sounding pretty good to me so could be a few weeks before it gets assembled
