Hi, my solenoid is stuffed on my starter motor. Its a pre engaged type. Being a 1993 Rover, whats my best option for a new solenoid to bolt onto the starter motor or maybe a complete new starter? Does the HMG815 on MG Spares suit?

Nope that one is a Chinese sourced Gemini starter, it suits early Minis only (pre-verto clutch).
I had one.

[edit] If you want a higher torque starter contact `Convertible Mini' on here. He has Bosch planetary geared ones (2 sorts) modified to fit early Minis, and Rover ones too.
Solenoid goes to the bottom, not the top. So engine bay is less cluttered.

Why's that?
I've put rover starters on early and late engines, do why would on motor not fit a different year engine?

Verto Ring gear is different. So all the books say. Dunno if bigger or smaller, but it's different (by a few teeth?).
[edit] Minispares site says Verto ring gear is 129T, pre-Verto is 107T.
They must be different pitch then, as diameter is pretty much the same.

Re the original Q about the solenoid on the Rover starter, I suspect it's the same as an MGF. If so, maybe not too hard to find over here.

Hi guys, I've done a bit more investigation, sorry about the delay, I had account probs, but on minisport uk is the starter motor I need. It's model number is GXE4527. MG Spares have a starter motor with the same model number... Might this be the one I need...?

Also the Bosch starter sounds interesting... Might look into that too...

In the mean time I was able to wire in an external solenoid to run in parallel with the existing/stuffed solenoid so the mini is going again... Albeit a temporary fix, the mini run once again...

My son had a S/H Lotus Elise/MGF starter here, I was hoping to pinch the solenoid off it and send to you- but unfortunately it got binned a few weeks ago. D'oh!

Spewing. That would have been handy. MG spares just got back to me and they have the same starter that MiniSport UK stock for the A+ so that could be a go.
