I actually know someone that did the Jag engine thing. My old mate Georgie boy. He's from Runcorn, Brisbane. Bugger he did it soooo long ago and the engine has long gone ![]() |

The gearbox kits were done by Bill Quine at Manx Racing. The yellow Clubbie has a BDA fitted to a Mini gearbox using (I was told) one of the kits. Its was for sale at Mini 30 for 5k. If you bought the engine he was throwing in the car for free... The Lotus Twink (orange Clubbie) was at the same show. Cheers, Ian |

I don't understand why you'd mod a gearbox to take a different block and head? Why not just do the whole engine / box combination? ![]() |

At a guess Firstly, im assuming the ford engines used were all N/S so there might not have been a engine/box combo. Secondly, keeping the gearbox means you aren't changing subframe/suspension etc. (This was possibly important for racing classes?) It's kinda like asking why put a BMW bike head on a mini block, why not put the engine/gearbox in? |

In the late '60s when they were doing this there wasn't a lot of fwd engines that were any better than Mini ones. Tim |

My 2c Harley- It saves re-engineering the sub frame, drive shafts etc. mini_mad_matt- A bit off topic but the BMW K1100 head is the only part that will fit in the mini. The block can't be mated to the mini gear box and the entire BMW setup doesn't fit in plus theirs no reverse and blah blah blah I've started a similar (very long term) conversion with a Suzuki swift 1.3L engine onto a mini box. My reason for this is mainly the sub frame issue, it's a lighter engine and can easily make 100bhp in std form if fitted with the GTI twin cam head, comes std with more modern features, parts are cheap and so on. |
