Post subject:  1275 LS Details

Guys,

I have finally got the gold LS on the road with a rough but fairly presentable paint job and not the original 1275 engine. Obviously there are teething problems when starting to drive it after many years off the road. Anyway, can anyone provide details on these vehicles like,

1. range of body numbers,
2. range of engine numbers,
3. date of production run,
4. unique features as compared to other Aus Minis.

I have found the usual and obvious diffs like,
1. 12" wheels and 8.4" brakes,
2. antiglare rear vision mirror,
3. better bucket seats,

But did Leyland fit a different steering rack? Mine appears to have a much better turning circle and different boots on the ends?

Maybe there are a few web sites around with guys who have the LS version, pse pass on any info.

Regards,

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack here, but the 12" rims got me thinking.... could a clubby take 13"s? or would they be to big and need the wheel arches rolled?

Does the 1275 engine have anti polution gear on it? Some of the later cars had quicker racks. Follow the link 2 posts up 8)

The 12" wheels fit without drama (my experience) and depending on profile 13" would. An ex-ACT Mini Car Club member put 13" on his LS, using metric pdc(?) and change the stud pattern on his hubs etc. No body work.
I recall MiniWorld had an article on modding the front guard for 13" wheels. The Brits seemed to think that the 13" wheels needed more room. Obviously a hemisphere problem!!!

Gee Mick did the 1275LS have such a long production run!

My sources tell me 1977-1978 (Not sure if that is including 998LS or not), engine number 12H902UH, Body Number XNFAD18Y. Not the best source, but haven't seen anything different!

Larger fuel tank - 7 gallons or whatever.

""better front seats"""???????????????,,,ah, well,,,not in my opinion

1978 only & approx only 400-500 of each colour were ever produced

Nugget gold metalic & Hi-Ho silver were the only 2 colours

most of the trim details were basically std issue by the time the 1275 LSs came out tho,,,most std Leyland Mini "Ss" ((not just the std leyland mini tho, they were very basic & didn`t have anywhere near the same trim level)) of 1978 came out with rear widow demister & night vision rearview mirror, tacho, rear seat belts etc,,,the 1275 LS seats trim was definately only 1275LS stuff tho,,,red cloth insets for the silver cars & brown for the gold ones & the door cars were specific to 1275LS also,,,

ah,,,what else was there????....thinking....thinking...????????

i believe that the spot lights (or rectangular driving lights) fitted into the grille like the Leyland mini SS were an "option" on the 1275LS as was an internal bonnett pull,,,options only & not solid across the range.

continuing to think here,,,,thinking,,,thinking...ah ,,,er,,,um,,,---->

i`ll remember some more soon

:-)

we still have 2x 1275LSs

:-)

I drove a few of these cars new and the only differences I can add is

Tthe steering wheel was diifferent, ( I think)
Some of the switches were illuminated
I am sure they would have had air pumps.
The gear lever may have had a different knob on it
Banded windscreen?

The interior bonnet release kit was sold as an option for all minis and would not be hard to make if NLA as I am sure it is.
