Post subject:  Carby's.. Whats the difference?

Hey i have no idea, so i thought id ask some people who will know..
What is the difference if there is any between a HIF44/6 SU, and a 1 3/4" SU ?
I am putting a turbo on my 1275 A+ and i am in the middle of looking at the carby and manifolds ect...
Cheers

Yep, the HIF-4 TURBO carb is quite different to the "Normal" HIF Carbs....

You use a "Normal" carb on a blow-through turbo setup, you'll know all about it at about 2Psi boost...... *BANG* as it leans out and burns a piston or worse.....

The Turbo carb has a float-bowl pressure inlet on the face of the carb to assit in the fuel being supplied at a greater pressure than boost (Thanks to a restrictor ring at the mouth of the carb to LOWER pressure on that side....)
there are also seals on the throttle shafts, o'rings everywhere and a special seal on the dash-pot top .....

Choke is on the opposite side and it has no "Flap-valve" on the throttle blade itself ....

Have i forgotten anything ?

its a specialty item... get the right part, if you are like me and HAVE to modify EVERYTHING, then at least use the Metro Turbo Carb and Plenum.... they just work... and they are good to about 280HP according to the MG Metro Turbo Group A Race cars.....

Good luck

mmm 280HP that would be absolutly awesome... But yeah im not made of money... So im better of gettin a turbo, manifold, and carb off a standard metro turbo...? And should expect to pay about $1000 for this?

Well, for myself, i made the manifold, picked up a cheap-ass Turbo (IHI RHB-4) and bought a carb / plenum for a Grand total of about $600 .....

Oh, and i didnt have to slice the firewall to bits....

Then again, i had 2 years to do it and a firm goal in mind.....
Helps that I'm a Mechanical Engineer by trade too . . . . .

But seriously, if you can get your hands on the original stuff, you'll be limited to about $140Hp... not bad if you ask me !
there are some manifolds you can get from Mirage Motorsport in the UK that enable you to fit a T2 Turbo WITHOUT cutting the firewall ..... bit Expensive if you ask me though .... about 200 pound i think . . . .

Do you know what the origional turbo is?? And im not going to cut any of the firewall either.. Consdering the van is going under some intense body work at the moment, so absolutly no cutting of the firewall, so im gonna need custom manifolds to move it away from the firewall....
