Post subject: | 1100 Build up |
Gathering parts for an 1100 build and am after some advice. I have +.060" Pistons, a 12G295 head, a 12G202 head, a 1 1/4" SU, 42 DCOE Weber. I'm wanting a bit of a tough streeter, in no ways a race motor. Just after your thoughts on best combinations and any mods that need to be done to them,as they are all stock. Also a recommendation on cam... |

Think about balancing and lightening the crank and the flywheel. |

is it worth doing the rods aswell? |

Generally just make sure their straight, I guess you could make sure the rods and pistons are all the same weight if your keen but I don't think it's necessary to try and lighten them. |

Use ARP bolts in the rods, with NO locktabs.. Check rods for straightness (they are seldom straight). Check big end bores for size and roundness. I wouldn't bother lightening the rods for a road car. ![]() |

what are your thoughts on the best head and carby to use from what ive got? |

I'd use the 295 head as you have one, it's way better than a stock 202. 1-1/4 SU won't feed it properly though, I'd go the 42DCOE. If you want an SU buy a bigger one (HS6 or HIF44) and a Minispares manifold. You need another cam too, the stock one sucks for getting HP. |

Cheers, was thinking an RE13 would that suit? Also how much needs to be shaved off the head? |

The RE13 is popular and should work rather well. Try and search for Kent cams and see what they have for your engine. The head and block should be decked to make sure they are flat. I would only shave the head after you've checked the cc's of both the combustion chamber in the head and the volume in the cylinder and then run all the calculations to get your desired compression ratio, then if it's needed shave the head to suit. |

Is it recommended to do any work to the head? Match the exhaust ports to the extractors? Port inlets? Valves? |

I have rebuilt an 1100 - what I have done. Lightened and balanced the fly wheel, crank, rods straightened and balanced. 295 head with unleaded inserts, larger exhaust valves, new double springs and guides. I spent a lot of time and effort cleaning out the water jacket - took the welsh plugs out and with wire coat hangers, screw drivers, bottle brushes and air and pressure hose cleaned out a heap of casting sand and other crap. bored and fitted 100 thou oversized flat top pistons, RE13 cam new cam followers, double timing chain, new water pump, new oil pump, new cam bearings, (all new bearings everywhere) modified Pulsar electronic dizzy, Fitted twin HS2 carbies, Maniflow 3 into 1 extractors and RC40 exhaust system. Oil releif valve mod. Gear box has been rebuilt and turned into a Magic Wand change - centre oil pick up fitted - Whole lot built to the optimum tolerances and clearances. Lots of other things done but can't remember it all |

I would recommend a kent266. Brother had one in his 1100 and went very very well. he had a 295 head with a lightened flywheel. So would recommend getting your flywheel lightened. And use your weber, should go very well |
