Its a Howley HIF44 Manifold. (Part Number HMI-6)

What I'm mainly interested in is does it fit between the head and firewall without modification as needed for some manifolds?

All feed back and thoughts welcome :)

Thanks

NMP used to sell them but we prefered the rover A+ manifold when we fitted them in the workshop. From memory (and its been a while since I have fitted one) you needed to machine some of the head side and the carb mounting surfaces of the manifold to fit a HIF44 carb, but a std 1 1/2 was ok.

Thanks mate,

Did you prefer the A+ one because it was factory and you new that it would be an easy fit or was there more to it?

Do you remember if the howley did fit without needing to modify the firewall?

Thanks 850man :)

PK , I,ve got a Howley manifold with 1 1/2 SU and K&N cone filter and its reasonably close to the firewall but I can still get a stubby screwdriver in there to get at the top screw

the Howley manifolds are a bit hard to find, where did you get yours from ?

see my edited post above. We liked the A+ manifolds cos they fitted propery, had all the correct bits & made good power. Most of them were S/H of the MG metro motors we brought in from the UK, but I can remember a few new ones too.

Hey 74snail, thanks.

I haven't bought it yet but I am looking at it with greeeeeaaaaat interest :)

I found it here http://www.aptfast.com/

The reason I asked about fitting, is because I also have a Minsport manifold and a Minispares manifold,, both are designed for HIF44's... problem is one of them (I can't remember I always get the names of the shops mixed up  ) doesn't clear the firewall when using a HIF44 :x

It only fowls by about the float bowl at the bottom by about 1/2" , and the other one is a crap design for the cam I'm running (and doesn't look like it would flow well either). The runners are too large in diameter so I think it would slow the air too much even for a cam producing 0.500" valve lift,,, plus its wound up a lot like a swan neck webber manifold.

So I am running a second hand Metro Turbo manifold at the moment, but it was ground out by the previous owner I think for port matching,, problem is that its about 6mm larger in Diameter than the (already modified) ports on my head

Anyway, I'm sure you didn't want to read my life story :) but thanks for the photo and I hope you find the link helpful :)

PK , the other one to look at is a Titan Motorsport manifold , again if you can find one

Yeah? They've pasted the trial by 74snail? :) I can get one of those from the same place,, but it ""looks like"" they are longer than the howley? They apear to be aimed at Sprigets..

Hey PK,

The old style minispares under 1380 manifold I have wouldn't clear the firewall with a 44 (bottom of float bowl) and a 1/2 in carb spacer, but a 1/4in one did. Also had problems with the cable linkage not clearing the manifold. I was told that's why the current ones are different to give more clearance. I don't have the 2 to compare ...

The old style -

With 1/2 in spacer and you can see the throttle linkage -

The new style -

Edit - The MG Metro manifolds are still available from minispares, havnt looked elsewhere - CAM6618

cheers

uhhhhhhhhhhhhh,, Awesome Kevin thanks for that :D

I didn't even consider that you could by the metro manifolds new anymore.. I was trying like crazy to find one Second Hand... and to be honest Kevin, for the motor its going on, an MG metro mani was my first choice, I just started looking at others when I could find a Metro one ...

Thanks mate, all the best

Alex

I mentioned the Titan Motorsports manifold as in a quick search it came up as a manifold used with a HIF44 as apparently the carb fits on a different angle to the Howley or an Oselli , I,m not sure whether someone here has got one to give you some measurements and photo's.

Thanks for that Dean, I'm out for re-con and info, so why not.... :)

I've had good experiences sith the MG Metro one, I'm rather fond of them... But sometimes you gotta try new things... especially when "old things" dry up... (or dry up SH anyway)

Thanks... nice head and rocker cover by the way, I like blue, nice change from red or "Baby Food Green" :)

Lokks similar to the Oselli Torquemaster inlet manifold I'm running my HIF 44 on. This clears the bulk head, just, with a K&N offset cone filter.
