Well , since I,m going to have a warm ( hottish ) 998 in the project I decided to throw caution to the wind and ordered one of these , for the price I couldn,t resist , its so tiny weeny tiny http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230681555576 ... 1438.l2649 I chose this one as it is only a small 7 row and has 1/2" BSP fittings which ( I think ) is the same as the factory 10 row oil cooler Being small it gives me a few options to fit it neatly and I,ll have to fabricate some brackets to make it nice and secure Now , having never fitted one one of these , what pipe work and fittings do I need ? . |

I make my own hoses up, using Pirtek's hydraulic return line hose and push-fit barb fittings. This hose is rated for oil at 500psi, is more flexible than steel braided hydraulic hose and more durable than that blingy SS braided stuff. Length shown is for NO cooler, just make 2 for yours at whatever length is needed. PIRTEK oil hose- 1- MPH-08 (35 bar, 500psi)1/2” Hose, 340mm long 2- BF1-0808P Fitting, push-on barb type ½” BSPP female 1- AH-08-06 Nipple, 1/2” BSP x 3/8 BSP (recut thread to 5/8 UNF) 1- AH-08-04 Nipple, 1/2” BSP x 1/4 BSP [edit] these 2 Pirtek hydraulic nipples were expensive, read below. re the fittings, I use a stock 3/8BSP-1/4BSP brass nipple into the cooler. For the block fitting, I use a 1/2BSP-3/8BSP brass nipple, and recut the 3/8 BSP end to 5/8-18 UNF (is about 1mm smaller and 18TPI instead of 19). You can buy this block fitting from Mini places still (maybe), if not I can supply you one. Here's a pic of my hose assembled- |

If you had race engine maybe but in my 998 not really necessary , because I,m only using a small cooler the oil temperature range should be pretty stable according to my use , I,ll have a higher compression to suit the cam I want to use and and also to get the most out of the cam I,ll be pulling a few revs , in these circumstances the use of a 10 or 13 row would not suit the motor so I was very happy happy to find one so small . |
