Hi guys, just wondering if any one knows what size motor is allowed in a mini here in QLD? I know the rules for nsw, but I have no idea what we are allowed to do up here because Queensland transport doesnt have a website with this info. Any help appreciated. Cheers. Dave. |

So does this mean I cant go and do an engine swap? I was hoping to be able to put a 1600 turbo into one if I can make it fit. Thanks for that. Dave. |

green talk to 998 clubman he just put a suzuki twincam 1.3 litre motor in his car i think 1.6 with turbo would be out due to the displacement x turbo 16 atmo would be fine but turbo i think it may be out side the guidlines makka |

Bugger, I was hoping I could use a 4agze toyota motor with a turbo instead of a supercharger because they can make huge power. I guess I could build a supercharged 1275. Thanks. Dave. |

You can fit anything up to 2 litre or up to 1.6 litre with forced induction as far as i have been told by my sources |

Looks like I will have to talk to an engineer before I get too far. Any one know of an engineer here in Brissy that would answer a few questions? (without charinging). I was told a few years ago that our rules were being changed to be the same as Nsw, but never heard for sure if it happened. If your sources are right then that would tie into what nsw's rules are, I guess I could also try and contact Qld transport. Cheers. Dave. |

It's a multiplication of original engine capacity. It's on the Main Roads website. There is a PDF file that you can download. It's been around for a while but hasn't been superceeded so is still current. JC |

Matt and JC have it right. The rule is 3 times your vehicles weight in cc's for NA or 2.5 times for forced induction. So if your mini weights 640Kg you can have up to 1920cc NA or 1600cc turbo. There was talk about changing the turbo rule to be a factor of only 2 but I haven't heard if that got through. I've seen a few attempts at a 4AGE in the front of a mini. Not pretty, they are large motors. Better off sticking it in the back.

Might have a look at what I can find photo wise. I could always turn it around and have front engine rwd similar to this one

Whitestriped63, Thanks for that, I had a good look for it before I posted this but had no joy. Looks like I will have to talk to an engineer any way. I was told a little while ago that there is a book with all the rules on what is allowed, but it costs around $300 and I wasnt sure how reliable the source was. I guess that the engineers must have some form of rule book for guidelines, so it could be right. Thanks again for that, I will let you guys know what I come up with from here. Cheers. Dave. |

It says in that PDF file that you can look at the manual at any Inspection station. Free of charge. I reckon you could hit the girls up behind the counter to photo copy the pages you need. |

Thanks for that, I missed that bit (too busy to read it properly). Even if I can't get the photocopies I could always take the digital camera along and take some pics, not the best way but better than nothing. Cheers. Dave. |
