Are roller cam followers available for Minis?

Just as you'd see in a high RPM V8?

I doubt it. The shape of the Lobes used for Roller Followers is quite different to that for flat tappet type (like those in the A series). I think a few have played around with trying roller followers but effort / advantage doesn't tallyup too well. They are also heavier than a flat tappet and so your valve springs and possibly push rods need a serious review.

We have been through all this before... yes, it has been tried- there is just not enough room in there to get decent performance cam profiles and lift with a roller cam.

one of (or at least one that i knew of) speedway guys up here , (year & years ago) had a roller cam & lifter arrangement, the thing was quick but i couldn`t tell you if the performance had any relationship with the roller lifters, to be honest i think it actually did a bit,,, but i didn`t build the engine, & i never drove the thing, but i knew what it was like before & after the opperation, & yes there was significant difference,,, however, when doing a job like that there is also the new rings & bearings & re-seat of the valves as per usual re-build a race motor type of standards,,, so maybe it was crisper & cleaner & quicker simply because of the re-build???

don`t forget the extra weight of them tho,,,

Have many people played around with needle roller bearings for the camshaft?

Nevelle Watts was doing it to Peter Mantons engines is the 60s.

Don't know about Gulson but Murray was doing it too. Every now and again he pulls out the camshaft and tells me the story on what you need to do hehe. It's one of his stories on a 6month rotation.

Camshaft needle bearings are just another hardened part to drop into the gearbox and cause even more havoc...
Although I guess on race motors, the windage tray helps in catching these bits-

A good friend races a pair of Aermacchi classic motorbikes and keeps wearing out cams every-other race meet or thereabouts and was on the hunt for more reliability, and maybe some extra horsepower.

He's only got about 3/4" to machine in the barrel for something to fit, most V8 stuff whilst easy to obtain is too large.
