hey people, if you don't remember me im the guy with the overheating mini! but its not overheating anymore and this is why! i just installed a Davies Craig 8" thermatic fan to pull the hot air away and it works really well - so if you're having any issues with your car getting hot whilst at the lights or anything then try this! i do have a few pics of how i did it but i can't work out how to put pictures up onto here so if anyone can tell me how then i'll put them up! sorry if people have put this up before but i thought some people might be interested! thanks |

I did some GBH on the grille part of the inner guard on the Moke and just managed to squeeze a second-hand 10" Davis Craig fan in there. ![]() |

Might sound crazy but.... I had my car up in Darwin for 6 years and had similar problems in the heat at lights. I made up a mounting and coupled four cabinet fans (just like computer case fans but 12volt and aluminium and quite tough) and mounted them under the wing. All up they draw only 750 milliamps. They have worked so very well that I then removed the precious white radiator fan and stowed it away. This gave me a pony or so for the sprints at Hidden Valley (I was up against a lotus and a westfield so I needed all I could get). It's been so successful that it has stayed that way ever since. I do have a good cooling system though...and I do watch them carefully. |

i thought u were supposed to attach the thermo fans to the radiator so it would either push or pull cold air through the radiator to cool the sysem down ![]() |

Unfortunately, sarcasm is really hard to distinguish from fact - especially from these buggers!!! Oh, theyre good ![]() The real answer is: That picture was taken presumably BEFORE he reintalled the radiator between the 2 fans. This is the only way to get a good photo of the setup. I am suprised the fan actually fits in that space!! It must be pretty slim ![]() |

MJ very pleased with that result. i was hoping your picture would say no readiator removal required. but i guess thats the best place to put it. will have to think about doing that for Herman |

How much did that fan cost, Emm Jay? And did you just get it from Supercheap? |

i actually got the fan from auto one - my brother works there (very handy). it had a retail price of $130.79 but i got it a fair bit cheaper coz of my bro thank goodness! the best way for the fan to work is with it attached to the radiator but as the 1275ls fat radiator is so expensive to replace i really didnt want to run the risk of damaging it! having it that far away is fine as it still pumps the hot air out from the car well (its probably only about a 20mm gap anyway) - on a recent cold day i found it was quite a nice heater standing next to the front left wheel! the fan has a depth of only 52mm and a width of 208mm so yeah its pretty slim and compact - makes for a nice flush mounting! |
