A pic from a DVD that does NOT leave my player....

It wasnt until I accidently paused on this screen that I noticed the obscurity of a few mods on UK's Bill Sollis race car engine....

Hmmm... lets see...
* tiny master cylinders!!
* coolant hose on clutch end of head??? What the?
* weber plenum chamber :wink:
* distributor-free ignition
* tiny tiny alternator... with massive drive pulley (to drive it slower at high revs I guess)

The main one that interests me is the coolant hose from the head to the block, above the clutch..... now THAT looks handy.

Coolant hose there is a good idea on a race Metro head, note there's no heater outlet hole- they had no bypass hose fittings either.
Yeah that intake plenum is neat.. 8)

i have seen this coolant head mod before, an old friend had done it to his 1310 drill in the head to the water jacket then make a fitting for ahose then do the same in the welsh plug in the block. as we all know that end of the head gets the hotest and has the least amount of water flow through it so in doing this increases water flow, he also used a morris 1100 radiator in it and it was as cool as a cucumber.

"Dry decking" they call it. From what I have read the head gasket has no coolant holes, coolant passes from one end of the block to the other, then out thru the hose and across the head. Apparantly solves problems with hot spots around cyl 4.

Don't ask me any more, i'm just regurgitating what i've read 8)

One thing I just thought about with that intake plenum. If the plenum itself is part of the body then there must be some sort of flexible coupling between it and the carb or it would get really messy with the engine rocking around. Unless of course they are using solid engine mounts. Even then I think you'd need a flexible coupling of some description.

Definitly cool though 8)

Master cylinders seem to have a remote reseviour. Maybe that's it over on the passenger's side behind the rad overflow tank?

Plenum chamber? looks just like a cold air box to me. Steve from Cairns has the best cold air induction that I have ever seen on a Mini. Show us again mate.
Yes it is called dry decking the head and block coolant holes are blocked off.

I'm running pretty hot at the moment (83-92' is "normal")

AS per above very intersting and Neet.

Thermostat Housing :wink: to rad nmust be running a Thermo Fan under the Guard

Dizzy look interesting too :shock:
Rose jionts on Master Cylinders going of to a Seperate Res :wink:
Alternator..I have seen these in the Pommy Mini Mags

Can't help you with this one James. I know that there is a story in the Mini Magazine or Mini World about this conversion. I believe it was MED who started this? not too sure though. Apparently much better water flow.
