Guys I was wondering if anyone has experience or knowledge of how to make a remote gear change internal (like you see in the English race minis)???

If not, any ideas where to find out or how to do it???

Cheers

thomas

Can only be done with a Rod-change as far as i know.....

(seems I'm the only one around here that thinks that Rod change is Ok !)

Cheers

Can be done with any gearbox, for a lot of different reasons.

The original "remote" gear shift in a mini was a shift that bolted to the top of the tunnel and hooked up to the "magic wand" gearchange.

In Australia I have seen some Sportsedans with the Cooper S/Deluxe style remote shift above the floor. The reason for doing this is quite simple, If you lower the car too much you end up with the driveshafts running on too great an angle. So you lower the body and keep the engine where it was.

theres nothing wrong with my rod change apart from when u lift it for reverse if u do it slightly wrong the pin that holds the shifter straight pops out slightly allowing it to spin, its annoying, how do i stop it, dont say get a remote one

write another topic meeni.... this is not about fixing gear change linkages, its about modifying them to inside the car.

yeah i have contemplated this too, but i have a good remote box atm so not as easy as a rod change.
my zorst is 2 1/2" ans it sits very low and does scrap a fair bit on bumpy roads.
when i build the next motor and box i think i will be going rod change and fitting it in the cab but i do not really want the bulkness in the cab but will see how it all looks...
from what i have read about it all you have to do is fit some sort of universal joint in the rods to get the adjustment of the angle right, people have used uni joints from a socket set and welded them inline.

Sounds almost dodgy enough for me to do it

Nah seriously, I think steering shaft unis would be better suited for this. Would look a whole lot more factory than socket set unis that's fo' sho!

Cheers,

Damo.

Why not just bend the rod change mechanism to come up through the wand hole...

Straight one goes like this _____________

Bent one like this _____/

Bit like this..
