white smoke usually means there is water in the system,
either condensed water (from over night) in the cylinders or exhaust system.
when i had this coming out, it usually subsides within 15 minutes
driving the car, or revving it a little (a little) usually heats things up and disperses the water.

it shouldnt smell like anything else but normal car exhaust gases.

another close thing to white could be oil (grey blue colour)

Did you do your valve stem seals when you did the head? I know that can cause smoke, dont know what colour?

why i asked if he had a brake booster is because when a brake booster is rooted it can suck brake fluid into the manifold & it will burn white smoke all day

:-)

OT.
Another unusual thing that can cause white smoke in some cars (not minis) is the vacuum modulator on auto transmissions. Some autos have a gizmo called a vacuum modulator and when it decides to die it lets auto oil get sucked into the manifold.
In the last workshop I was in we were asked by a customer to fit a replacement engine to a Mazda 929 because the motor was blowing white smoke, we fitted the new motor and started it up and it was still blowing smoke. We changed the vacuum modulator and the smoke stopped.
The customer paid $1000 for an engine swap that was not needed!

Let it run, you may have something in the fuel line like i did. If it doesnt clear after 10 mins, there is something else wrong. Keep an eye on the temp too, it'll go up real quick if it's too lean.

Cheers

Aaron

it's water, the head gasket is letting wther into the cylinders.... is the engine using water? do a compression test, get one of those special thingys and pressure test the radiator, or the other special thingy that tells you if you've got exhaust gases in your water
