Post subject: | Interesting Power to Weight Ratio Calculations!!! |
Just got bored at work and thought I'd calculate what power to weight ratio a 110hp mini was against more modern cars. what i found openned my eyes ![]() These are rough figures, but pretty close using Drive.com.au's specs of each vehicle measured in Horsepower:Pounds Lillee 46hp(?) 650kg = 0.032 Go Lillee!!! Dr Mini's Mini Haha 115hp, 650kg = 0.080 ![]() Holden's new Commodore with alloytech V6 175KW = 0.066 2005 Holden Commodore SS = 0.089 Not bad! Pretty close I'd say! Nissan Pulsar N15 SSS = 0.053 ![]() Toyota Echo Sportivo 1.5L 80KW = 0.035 ![]() Nissan Sylvia 200SX S15 = 0.067 ![]() So here's the clincher: Brad’s Gold Rocket Launcher approx 160hp 720kg = 0.108 ![]() ![]() EDIT: Upon Brad's request, 190 Crank HP = 0.1197 !!! That would also mean Mini Hahas calculation is wrong too has 115 is at the wheels, plus since Haha is now a bigger motor, 120hp? 125hp? 2002 Porshe 996 Carrera 235KW = 0.099 Well done Brad! omg it's a beast!!! ![]() |

Hehe Ooooo that hoover hoons... 0.2 ![]() Calculation is just: HP / lbs = Power:Weirght 1Kg = 2.2lbs So for the matic 21HP / 1455lbs = 0.0144 Hoover 6.6HP / 33Kg = 0.2 |

yeh mate im all for the SI over the imperial but we're talking about the mini here when it was called a motor car, but technically is an 'engine car' when all the nuts and bolts and spanners and sockets are all imperial when they had a horse with a bucket of sand to measure engine strength when miles per gallon rolls off the tongue better than litres per one hundred kilometres HP figures are bigger than KW so im not complaining ![]() |

yeah but pounds are smaller than kilos.. trust me.. 120kw/650kgs is 0.168 not 0.1051 and if you do HP/kg it looks even more impressive.. the new CBR600RR has a 1:1 power to weight ratio if you calculate it that way (140HP/140Kg) or was it the YZF600... either way thats impressive.. but even still.. whack me at 80Kgs ontop of it and it screws it power to weight up more than the 605kg my mini van tips in at (even less now it has no carpet) |

Yes Mr Bradley! It's been edited above. The website for this calculation is here: http://www.ajdesigner.com/phphorsepower ... _ratio.php And yes I converted all the KW to HP before tossing the numbers in. Brad, I think the Pocket Rocket of yours has the same ratio as a 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo 345KW!!! |
