For hot engines, what is better? A modern super 2 core radiator or a 4 core one? Super 2 Core: http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=34588 Special 4 Core: http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=37131 What's the differences? Why are they worth the same? why have 2 choices??? |

heres the revelation that the lower the number of cores, the better. i think it depends on the application: 2Core = more air flow when moving 4Core = less air flow when moving because of more cores (but does not make that much of a difference in reality) 2Core = less cooling when stationary 4Core = more cooling when stationary because more cores to dissipate heat it can then be said that 2Core = constant faster driving (i wouldnt say good for a hot engine), purely for racing minis 4Core = general and traffic driving 4Cores are difficult to install as modifications of the brackets and shrouds are needed why dont you go for a 3Core? |

G'Day, I replaced my 4 core with a 2 core, made the world of difference. Both fitted in place of the standard without modifications, but the 2 core had much more clearance. Also added electric fan for heavy traffic duty, the problem I had was with getting the hot air out of the lefthand wheel arch at idle. The part that makes the real difference is not the number of cores but how the fins are arranged. The 4 core has plain horizontal fins, but the 2 core has fins arranged in zig zag pattern, much more surface contact. Dino |

I put a new 2 core in Barney, but Ha-Ha is running a stocko 3 core Deluxe/Cooper S rad, with the help of the stock MiniMatic fresh air heater. It effectively gives it 50% more core area. Never overheats, the faster I go the cooler it runs- if I ever replace the old rad I'll get a 3 core again. $100 cheaper than the 2 core.. ![]() |

it`s not really an issue of """How many cores""" it`s more about "How much """"FIN AREA"""???" the more "FIN AREA" avaliable, the better some can argue all they like about a 4 core or a 3 core or a 2 core being better than eachother, whatever,,,,,if one has more "FIN AREA" than the other, then that`s the better choice, 4 cores can seem to block the flow of air,,,2 cores may seem like not enough flow,,,all crud really, they all work well, just that the one with the most "FIN AREA" wins , simple!!! & on top of all that--->i can show you a fully blocked 4 core & i`d bet the clean 2 core works better,,,or i can show you a fully blocked 2 core & the clean 4 core would be better,,,so being blocked really doesn`t help either,. but,,,if you actually sat down & took the time to work out the "FIN AREA" of each rad,,,then take the one with the most "FIN AREA" i personally use a std old Aussie "S" 3 core in my 1510cc donk & it sits on the thermostat the whole entire time while driving, at speed or at slow,,,traffic & at races,,,hardly moves & i don`t have any extra rad core or heater matrix or diddly squat,,,just our simple by-pass hose mod from the back of the head (heater outlet) to the top tank of the rad, & we block off the old std by-pass under the head to the water pump, easy-peasy. ![]() so,,,remember "FIN AREA", that`s where the heat is dissipated from. have i mentioned anything about """FIN AREA""" yet? ![]() |

Hahaha What's so important about FIN AREA again?! ![]() OK gotcha, 3 core it is then. Esp since I have a matic heater to go with it. I'll make sure I clean the matic heater well before putting it back in during after install of the engine. Thank you all! |

Also be aware that the Mini Deluxe and Cooper S in Oz, and later cars both used the same size rad with 16 `gills/inch'. Most Mk1 etc UK Mini rads (except S) only have 12 `gills/inch'- not as good, but hey it don't get hot over there.. ![]() Matt, maybe we should discuss gill area (same as fins lol) ![]() BTW the MiniMatic heater core is real thick, has lots of `gill area' too. ![]() |

In my 1275 LS, i just fgot rid of the old side-mount altogether and wedged in a cross-flow rad off an Alfa Romeo 'Sud... I think it took 45mins to get down the main drag at Glenelg on 35degree day, and with the little 8" fan going, it just sat on the thermostat... Sweet! Something acually went as planned for once! |

if you have a Clubby shaped mini & you want something a bit more "Bling" then you can use the VW Golf alloy rads,,,They fit across the front easy peasy & come with a thermo fan & housing allready to go, a bit of alloy angle & 2 holes in the bonnett close panel with 2 rubber washers & jobs done!!!...i used one of them for my turbo mini years ago & worked a treat,,,still got it here somewhere actually ![]() |

I have a Morris 1100 rad in the clubby and works a treat(AYA 2000 I think the number is...) plus I have the Clubby heater core plumbed in on the drivers side grill - summer barely nudges the "C" and is fantastic. The downside is the Canberra winter necessitates putting perspex behind the grill on the passengers side to cut down on the frigid air coming in - the car just wont heat up. Rob Forsyth Miniot!! |

Wouldn't you want it a little bit hotter than 'Barely nudging the 'C'? ![]() ![]() I run a new super 2 core..Operates all day just below the 'N' get's a little above the 'N' in traffic and drops down the faster I drive... Also running an Oil cooler.. |
