G'day guys. Is there a formula to work out what size intercooler is req'd for certain power out puts. I am very limited by the amount of space I have in my engine bay. I would love to work out the smalest intercooler I can have custom made that will let me get 200kw atw any one know how to work this out? |

Dean you will find out if its big enough once you get it on a dyno and start tuning it. If you can run 20psi all the way through the rev range and inlet temps stay under what is consited OK then it will be fine. If you get it upto 15psi and fueling is fine, timing is fine and it starts pinging then it will be inlet temps being the problem. Basically get the biggest one in there you can and hope it will keep things cool. A few of the big rotory drag cars out there dont even run an intercoller, so you can make massive power without one but for only 8 seconds before it gets to hot ![]() Im pretty much at the limit for boost/power on my top mount setup, I think if i front mounted the standard intercooler it would be fine to run 18-20psi through it, if the turbo was upto it. |

Good place to start is with the factory interwarmer......factory requires it that be big, at least. If you put it in a position where it catches colder air it has to be cooling better right? Though you are going to be very limited for room in the front if you are running a bigger turbo, which you are obviously going to have to. |

Yeah am going to be running a GT28RS "Disco Potato" Turbo so space will be limited.... oh well time will soon tell. |

Hi Dean, check these guys out http://www.are.com.au/ they are not badly priced either, and do a beautifull job and know there crap, my mate just one done for his 400HP rx3. i will post a pick of it so you can see the workmanship. |

Best rule of thumb is HP .... Find a factory turbo car that runs the HP you want to achieve... (think GTI-R maybe?) THAT core will support the flow / HP you want.... personally, I'm currently looking at SAAB Turbo intercoolers... small and good for about 190HP ..... WWWAAAYYYY more than my little 998 needs...... J |
