Post subject:  air filters

here we have one offset ramflo intake which is brand new, but old stock... the sponge media in it had deteriorated to the point of crumbling away if you even looked at it sideways.. so bad it couldnt be removed in one, or ten , pieces...seems a good time to have a bit of a look at alternatives to the sponge and trying some new age media's
the lovely green one is washable and is high efficiency, its also cheap, and pretty..the very inner surface has an extra fine layer of filtration to catch any super small particles. this baby will filter nicotine out of the air, so it should stop ya motor smoking (this is a joke).. Just wish that Kay was ready for her motor..
I susspect that this particular media may be ideal for anyone who does a bit of off road stuff, it would need cleaning/ replacing more often, but would offer superb engine protection. would be nice to have a car to do some experimenting on.

What you need is a flow bench and some filters to compare it to.

I've run a Ramflo with the same Finer Filter (oiled) pad in it, on the 45DHLA for the last 5 years. Pad is still good, I just wash and oil it every 5000 miles.
Yeah the Lynx pads don't seem too durable, I used them years ago.

Mightn't fit a 45DCOE on a Redline 3005.. unless you get the angle grinder out..
Ramflo barely fits. I changed the angle of my 3005 from 12* to 15* to get a little more clearance under the filter.

My K&N fits my Weber in my Mini.

Though my bulkhead is cut away and a carbon fibre box put in to fit it all.

Yeah I thought of doing that to fit the Russell Eng one, but I like my nice Mk2 S speedo where it is..

You got the part number for that K&N sg?

Should be the same offset holes for a 40DHLA and 45?

Don't really know Mini Mad if they are brand specific. When i orderd it i asked for a pancake filter to suit a 45 Weber.

Anyways the Part# is: Element - E-3321, Base and Top Plate - 56-1310

would be nice if it worked that way.. the filter is graded on 2 things..its restrictiveness to airflow, and its ability to catch certain specified dust particles
I have no idea idf there are standards that car filters have to make to be acceptable..
the test rig we have is about the length of a house and it needs a filter of a standard size to test

I have just put my last `Finer Filter' FF4148 oiled foam pad into the Ramflo 445 on my 45 Dellorto.
Previous one was in there 5 years, still working good but no longer looked Bling!

Finer Filter got taken over by UniFilter and closed down a few years back. I've just emailed UniFilter to see if these pads are still available.
Will let y'all know.. 8)
