yeah excuse heading I think this is where this should go found this on ebay ![]() what do people think and is it worth doing???? poeee edit/ I've removed the eBay link at the request of the seller (put an image of the general product being discussed), but left the thread in place as it is completely informative (although moved it to Mini Mods). |

How can a spring be `progressive wound' when it only has 1 free coil? These things polarise Mini people, IMO as they don't have any real spring rate, they are probably no good on the road. Keith Calver investigated them a while back, he didn't like them either. They have other problems too, like falling out of place if you get air over a bump. BTW, a Mini's rubber cones are a much later design than steel coil springs... ![]() |

These sparked my interest as well while looking through mini sport/spares catalogs, but yeah, quickly died when i saw the little note that they were suitable for smooth road/track only. The chance they could pop out from a pothole/bumpy corner pretty much rules them out for a daily driver, or if you plan on doing any highway/regional/fun/mini driving. |

I think they seat in basically the same as rubber cones do... So shouldn't really fall out unless it has been lowered and the wrong shocks are on?? The same thing holds the rubber cones in - nothing |

When you jack the car up do the rubber springs fall out?
Some of the coil springs do not have enough (or any) pre-load and if you jack the car up the springs can fall out. There is another potential problem that is being ignored and that is the actual legality if these springs. Do they require engineering approval? Are you sure? ![]() |

I'm also trying to find some info... By pre load on the rubber springs what do you mean? |

The problem M1100 describes with these springs is they are short. So when they are unloaded (ie suspension hanging down) they fall about. The rubber cones have a longer working travel, also they are a damn good fit up there in the subby so they don't drop either. |

Doesn't this lead to premature material fatique too? ![]() |

Doc, They could be progressive if they were wound from a tapered wire. But the thickness on those coils looks uniform to me - therefore a uniform spring rate and not progressive. Be interesting to see how they perform. They would have to be bloody good to beat a set of smooth-a-rides though!! |

In my opinion, People who have not tried these should not comment about. If they are fitted properly they are the best thing since sliced bread. Try some fitted properly and then speak. I have not heard a single complaint from people that have actually fitted them to their cars. Perhaps this is another sour grapes thing for some ? They beat Rubber cones any day. |

I assume you have them fitted to your car? Maybe the people who have them fitted to their cars dont want to admit to themselves that they dropped 600+ on crap? No ones mentioned the ol hydrospastic, thats great stuff. Also are we talking road cars or race track? I admit i do find rubber cones bounce from pot hole to pot hole on nsw roads |

Lets keep it simple. Road car - standard roads. Comments on ride, handling, ease of adustability and durability. C'mon people, if you have them put your comments on here - no comments from "a mate of mines brothers uncles house-keepers sons car has them on........ etc!!! I am biased either way, just after the facts. |

Sold some parts to a mini guy yesterday. He said he has them fitted. He said the ride is infinitely better. |
