Post subject: | Flip Front Engineered? VIC |
Hey guys, been reading the posts for a little while and you all seems to have a great forum going. Have just registered and hope to tap into that knowledge. So here goes, my first question .... I've noticed that some of you have flip fronts. I was looking at doing this but was unsure about the legalities and whether it has to be engineered (structural integrity and all that) in Victoria. I have the skills and know how to do it, just not whether I should or not. Anyone know an engineer that approves them and how much it cost ? Would really prefer to keep it legal. Experiences anyone? |

i have a flip front on mine, inner guards still intact, just a frame from angle iron boltted to the front and pin gate type hinges for the flip. all engineered, ill find out by who when i get home,. but short answer yes you do need an engineers for it to be legal, i think there are new regs too on thickness of the fibreglass. no real hassles getting it through vicroads though, they didnt even ask for the engineers !! no idea.. they were just like "hey cool a mini!" imine had the flip on it when i bought it but i pocked another one up of ebay for $150, just right place and time i guess, before you ask, the old one was rooted and i gave it away to somone on this forum, cant remember who! cheers cam |

Thanks bigcam, much appreciated. I'd probably just weld up and brace the metal front rather than buy a fibreglass anyway. It's there, it's free... |

MiniVan, I think most if not all would come from the UK. For the price, I personally, think it would be just as easy to retain the original steel front. ![]() Couldn't find any on the MiniSpares Site. http://www.customminis.co.uk/id46.html Extended VTEC clubman front; http://www.plmini.com/vtech.htm ![]() Having a quick look they aren't very easy to find, but they are out there. I believe even a local fibreglass place could take a mold from an existing mini front. May work out to be dearer, I don't know. Back to the topic; Thanks Cam ![]() BigCam, who'd you get it engineered with? |
