I put hilos in my van on the weekend and dropped the ass down to the floor (can fit a finger and a bit between the guards and the tyres)

my problem was that the ass on the van sticks way up in the air. (about 3" from the guard

anyway, what i was actually asking was. now that my hilos are in, when i jack my car up, the wheel drops low enough on full extension to dislodge the cone from its seat, which is bad as it wont find its way back if the wheel goes up again (fine if i'm on the end of a jack as i can pop it back in before i drop it, bad if this occurs when i go over a hump in the road fast.

a) is this a problem as i am a 'spirited' driver
b) will harder shocks stop my ass bottoming out on bends or do i need uprated cones aswell

c) does anyone here in perth know where to get afore mentioned hardware at good prices, i can only get gabriel cheap(fine fore the average falcon, not for me)

when i say good prices, i mean below retail

your shockers should stop it going going high enuff for the whole lot to fall out,Big willie had his on its arse,and when it was jacked up it didnt fall out coz his shockers,so go get yourself some good ones

i thought u were sposed to get lowered dampers when you fit hi/los so that that didnt happen. spax make some lowered ones and sometimes they are on ebay.au :)

gaz also make lowered shockers ;) i have some, buy from minispeed uk ;) good blokes there, just dont use diners club.

tyres arent an issue at the moment, especially at the arse end

ive got 165 Falken unidirectionals on 12" minilite rip offs, theyre not bad at all

how can money be better spent getting "more stable suspention" if i dont uprate my shocks


does anyone know where i can buy race spec cones here in Aus..

even better, anyone know of a cheap way to post crap from england in small quntities? such as 4-8 cones and some gaz shocks?

Ok i've got rear hilos.
The lower the car is at the back (from standard) the worse the handling becomes. This is quite true indeed. I had the car VERY low when i first fitted the hilos- and it scrubbed on the guards way too much.
I raised it back up about an inch (1/2 inch below standard) and the scrubbing disappeared and the handling was AMAZING, compared to how Shite it was when it was in its low position.

I have stock shockers and experienced no bottoming-out or clunking or any of that stuff. The damping held the cones in from falling out so this was not an issue for me.

If you do need to get new shockers, get the lowered type for sure. Or adjustable shockers.

If you want to run it that low I suppose you could use a strap onto the trailing arm to stop it falling to far.

Thats what someone else has said (drill a lil hole in the subframe lip and put a big cable tie to hold it at it lowest position that holds the cone in place

does anyone know the difference between mini van shocks and standard mini ones

i'm talking rear here.. fronts are obviously the same

van shocks are longer, thats all , but if you are lowering it , it wont matter, gaz sedan shocks will be fine :wink:

FALKEN tyres are VERY slippery,10 and 12's,prob worth looking at yokies,they dont slide,me and stewie have tryed are hardest,arse is always out no,still got falkens on em

haha, I am one who detests the falkens, they are great for mileage and if you just want to drive around sedately and not like a mini should, they're OK in the dry but disgustingly bad in the wet..

The one's i've had on my car now have lasted forever, even with the driving i do, and they've seen a track day, so i know how they handle on the limit..took about 3 or 4 laps to get them hot enough to resemble reasonable grip, I wouldn't want to be out in the rain though, they spin when i just take off! they weren't too bad really for the price, but there are plenty better out there..really only one other choice in 12's though..the A539's which i can't wait to get when these wear out more ;)

For shocks on the rear, I'm going to put Koni Red's which are adjustable and can be purchased in Oz...If you are looking to import from the the UK double the price for freight. Sorry this is what it costs 80 Pounds

Falkens on the rear OR front I would not do since I saw Chong do a 360 Right infront of me going upto to Kazjims with a little bit of water on the road....Get rid of them..I know what I will be having for tyres
