I am trying find some data on the re13 camshaft, rev range, lift, driveablity in traffic etc

has any one used one in a 1293 mini

Wait for 'drmini in aust' to reply, or PM him. The only person who knows more about the RE13 cam is Graham Russel himself! I think the doc's engine is a 1293???

Doc's is a 1310, RE-13 is a good camshaft, i'm running it in an 1152..

Rev range on docs 1310 come in (close to these anyway) at about 2700rpm and gets another kick at about 5 or 6k and revs hard all the way to 8k+...but not anymore

Mine is not bad in traffic, but you can notice it. I use my car in traffic a fair bit and it doesn't bother me though..

You have to wait for the cam to come on, but it provides great power when it does...

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

Lift of RE-13 is .290" at cam lobe, inlet & exhaust.
Duration in mine with 1.5 rockers and at .020" clearance is 277* intake and 286* exhaust.
GR reckons it is less than that, I guess so if you ran stock rockers at .020" as he recommends....
You want around 10.0-10.5 C/R to run this cam properly, IMO.

Power in my 1310 with 1.5 rockers comes in at 2600 with a GR manifold, 2700 with a Redline 3005. At 5000 or so it gets another surge and spins hard to 7500+
Make that SPAN hard.. it's now cracked a piston and is coming out for surgery.
I'm running a 45 Dellorto with 36mm chokes.

I like the RE13...I had a 631/731 cam in prior and it a noticable differance.
I/wifey (Morris)is also a 1152 a bit off the head and a HIF44 and a Doc Box with a 3.64 dif

I'm waiting for next weekend to what the improved HP is..as the 631 cam gave us 48 at the wheels

I'm running a variant of the RE-13 (Lets call it the RE-13T?)
Not entirely sure about the specs, but I'm pretty sure GR reduced the overlap and increased the exhaust duration...

In my 998 Turbo, its Lumpy, grumbly and nasty up to about 2000RPM, then it starts to come on strong.. Boost comes in about 2500 and then it just screams all the way to 7500RPM (been to 8k a few times, but its really starting to run out of puff . . . .

Nice Cam, I'm running it at 0.012" Clearance ( I just cant stand the noise!! yes, i have an Alloy rocker cover too!!) and now with the pulsar Dizzy, the cam is a lot more civilised....

.012" clearance is too tight, this cam has big opening & closing ramps. GR recommends .018-.020" clearance.
If it's rattly, check your rocker to shaft clearances..

thanks for the info so far..

i want to be able to drive my mini to work in heavy traffic with and have my wife drive the car and enjoy it with heaps of torque down low.

As the motor is apart with a buggered idler bearing its a good time to change the cam. during its minor surgery.. Dr Mini sorry to hear about you cracked piston..

Dr Mini i read in one of the threads you thought the SW5 is over rated..why?

any other choices, have owned or driven cars with uk cams 266, 276, 286, 544, 648 and have not that impressed to go down that path again

i lived in melbourne for few years and saw some quick cars down under with cam specs designed for southern hemisphre condtions so keep them coming.

I think the SW5 is overrated because it quits around 6000 or a bit more. Good traffic cam I suppose, if that's what you want. I like cams with a bit of top end...

Over the years I have used Waggott's 23/60, BMC's 544 and 731, Bert Jones' 35/70, Camtech 631, Camtech VP3 (619), and the RE-13.
I'd say RE-13's got the best midrange of any of these, top end is good, and it's quite good in traffic at part throttle. I can go well below 50KMH in 4th gear (with 3.44 diff) and it pulls away smooth. Not bad for a Dellorto 45 carb with 36 chokes in it.

My wife's Mini has a 1293A+ motor with a Tighe 104 cam twin HS4s and Corolla rockers. Should hit the street this week- we'll see how it goes..

The RE13 has no problems in trafic...Morris, Wifes daily drive does a round trip of 70k's per day up Parramatta Road and the M4 during peak hour both directions

I didn't build this 1293 motor- it was in the 850 I sold to J_A_M.
It's only done 5000 miles since rebuild, then was parked 10 years ago.
I checked it out when I did the gearbox, cam's not worn so I left it in... it's only a shopping trolley...
