My alternator finally packed it in on Saturday, so decided to try the nissan pulsar swap.
Picked up an alternator from a 1989 pulsar Q at the wreckers for $40.00.
Fitting was straight forward except for undoing the main nut to remove the spacer between the fan and the pulley and making an extented sliding mounting bracket.
When first started the car the fan belt screamed for a few seconds under load, must have needed bedding in to the shape of new pulley. After that no problems alternator is charging ok and the fan belt is nice and quiet.
