G'day Guys,
I'm wanting to get opinions about running a DHLA with straight gaskets, not soft mount. All the Weber people say not to, but this is a Dell'orto. My soft mounts are leaking, so I need to replace the O-rings, but if I ran straight gaskets I would gain much needed clearance, as currently the DHLA is so tight against the firewall it acts as an extra engine steady! Need to adjust with a BFH I think...

I've had my Dellorto 45DHLA running gaskets for 8 years, since the soft mount kit died. No problems at all.
No it doesn't flood.....

BTW... I know people running Webers on Minis with gaskets too, they don't have problems either.

Okay, guess there is one way to find out whether it will work for me... just need to find some gaskets. You should have seen the look on the face of idiots at SuperCrap when I asked for a DCOE soft mount kit

I bought some Oz made Dellorto repair kits, they come with gaskets in them. So there..

p/no is D01 (recarb) or DE-250 (Fuel Miser) they are the same kit.

Try Repco, they can get them in.

Anto - try Aototech in Fyshwick - they may be able to help out. They deal with Alfas so should have some sitting about. Also try MLP Carbies in Victoria. I had 2 kits sent to me and they have the gaskets in the kits. Just finished rebuilding a DHLA 40 this evening - I must admit it was actually easier than doing the olde SU's. Keen to get it on the car and see if I can set fire to it...lol. BTW - thanks Makka for the stuff, your Ma was a hoot to chat to last week...hope the road isnt too long before I can get to have those beers...

Anonymous moderation means the agro that is built up towards the mods isn't aimed at an individual (fewer "Makk" attacks). Less stress for mods means less moderator "retirements".

I'm running mine with home made gaskets.... got the gasket paper/cardboard stuff from burson's. Seems to be going ok... no flooding.

Way ahead of you! They had some to hand, and I'm thinking about getting the car dyno'd there perhaps this week. The guys at the local Dyno tune told me that you can't get Dell'orto parts any more... So I decided that would not be the best place to go.

I just put a new Redline inlet manifold and linkage kit on my Mini. Tuned it up today and it runs quite well. Still hesitates on progression down low, now it also is a little bit rough between 5000rpm to valve bounce. Will get the carb sorted, then I'll consider fitting double springs. Spent at least an hour grinding and filing the inlet manifold before it would fit but I guess you have to expect that on a new manifold. Linkage kit was fiddly (and a bit expensive considering the parts included), but on the whole it is a neat and impressive setup.

Chokes were a problem when I needed some 36s, so I brought a bunch of stuff in from Eurocarb UK, and I got the bits in a week. Their website is www.dellorto.co.uk
I buy the Oz made repair kits though ($25 approx), as the genuine Dellorto ones are too dear, (49GBP) although they do a pair of carbs..

Far as I know the carb doesn't need rebuilding. Might need a new float bowl gasket, but it only leaks a tiny bit so I'm not fussed (not fussed enough to pull the floats off just to do the gasket, at any rate). What parts come in the kit, apart from gaskets and I assume a new float needle?

Float's needle valve and seat, all gaskets top and bottom, flange gaskets, accelerator pump diaphragm, all the little rubbers for the pump jets and others.
And, a piece of paper showing all the carb's parts, and how to adjust the float level.

If your top gasket is leaking, maybe the float level is too high, should be 15mm to gasket with cover held vertical. Full droop of float is 25mm, adjust by bending tab.

All gaskets, washers, "o" rings, and a rectangular gasket whose job and position on the dellorto has eluded me(and the other experts as well!!) so it is still in the bag it came in. I have a funny feeling it was specifically for an alfa anyhow. It also comes with new float needle and seat(I didnt relace that as the fitted one was in perfect condition.

Word of warning - oil the mixture screws - they seize and cannot be removed. It comes with age and heat but easily fixed
