Post subject:  LSD and small bore engines

Hello

Im told that a limited slip diff would suck to much power out of a small bore engine.

is this true?

I suffer from massive amounts of wheel spin, weighing up my options.

thanks

do it,,, slipperys are great, & they don`t suck power,,, they add grip.

hmm, i guess once I fit a lsd, i could re install my front sway bar.

in this photo, you can get an idea of one of the corners that I have trouble on.

Hhhmmmmm ... Just like a good pastry,,, Light & fluffy :-)

yeah maybe lower it a tad, add the sway bar & some decent shocks & the LSD is always good for quicker lap times

I have the rear a bit higher then the front, might try some different heights. and yeah, I do need to upgrade my shocks, just waiting for our dollar to get a bit better.

with lsd - always get it from a known good dealer. Lots of bad lsd cut with all sorts of weird stuff at the moment. I cant see how it would help your driving though - unless you being chased by purple bats or something

Picture yourself in a boat on a river,
With tangerine trees and marmalade skies
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly,
A girl with kaleidoscope eyes.
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

Follow her down to a bridge by a fountain
Where rocking horse people eat marshmellow pies,
Everyone smiles as you drift past the flowers,
That grow so incredibly high.
Newspaper taxis appear on the shore,
Waiting to take you away.
Climb in the back with your head in the clouds,
And you're gone.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds,

Picture yourself on a train in a station,
With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,
Suddenly someone is there at the turnstyle,
The girl with the kaleidoscope eyes.

not worth the cost imo, especially on a smallbore.

if you're wheelspinning then you're either using way too much throttle, you need new tyres or your suspension needs a bit of work :)

an LSD wont automatically make you faster, and for the cost you could significantly improve other areas of the car which would make you faster

How about one of the quaife ones? the fact that they don't produce arm wrenching torque steer is a bonus.

$400 is not a lot to spend, I dont care if I dont go any quicker, the only reason Im asking is because im rebuilding the engine/box again and I need to know what bits to order.

And yes, I need to upgrade my shocks, apart from that its fine.

i dont know about this but wouldnt an lsd in some ways produce understeer on corner exit under power?? seeing as your on the power there and the car is wide wouldnt fitting an lsd and driving the car that way make it worse (i dont know this but its the mental image im getting) the only reason that car seems to be wheelspinning with a normal diff is because the load is almost completely off the inside wheel anti roll bar and some stiff shocks and you wont have that problem at all

Are you only getting wheelspin in the one spot on the track? (It looks like over the top at Baskerville)

Hey guys

Yeah thats the corner, top of the hill. lot of fun. I do get massive wheel spin on the pictured corner (as the inside wheels lift up/off the groud), but I do also suffer from wheel spin on every other corner.

The Nb mini I drove with a LSD did not suffer from wheel spin as my open diff did.

no matter how I take that corner, or some of the others I might add, as soon as I hit the loud peddle it just lights up.

I know I need to upgrade my shocks to something like the spax or gaz, and I know that a LSD will add under steer, but a change in my lines/driving style should help to compensate this.

I have gab reds all round, adjustable lower arms, caster, rear camber and toe, hilos, and a rear sway bar.

the set up does work, because the two club days that I have done the last few months I have won fastest mini under 1200 twice, but it still needs fine tuning. so while the motor is out, im sure it wouldnt hurt to try a LSD....

oh and sorry, I have tried a front sway bar, and I had more wheel spin, so I removed it.

its going back on once I get the LSD and new shocks, lowerd, wheel alignment and 6" rims, new engine etc
